Raha-bazzar road in sorry state for several years
Traffic movement in the Raha town bazzar area has become extremely difficult due to deplorable road condition for the last 2 years. About 500 dwellers of Raha bazzar area are suffering badly as the Public Works Department (PWD) is not taking any measure to repair the damaged road. With rains adding to the situation , plying of vehicles on this road has now become almost impossible.
“ I often move through other way to my office to avoid this damaged road at Raha bazzar area during rainy season. Being a physically challenged person it is a big problem for me as I need to cover a long distance to reach my office.I think the dwellers of the both sides of the road are also equally responsible with PWD as they do not stress on the need of a proper drainage system” – says Mr. Babul Saikia, Junior Engineer, PHE ,Raha.
The rickshaw pullers would not take passengers through this road in the town because of their vulnerable condition. “Taking advantage of this damaged road, the rickshaw puller charge double. Moreover , it’s time consuming as they take a longer drive.” Said – Pankaj Boruah, a conscious resident of Raha. When asked, a section of conscious residents of the town said that the businessmen of the both sides of the road always leave their wastage in the middle of the road and this turn the road into a dustbin. “The commuters in different vehicles as well as pedestrians suffering a lot due to this –“ they further said.
Whatever the causes are, the residents of the locality have expressed strong resentment towards the state Public Works Department, for allegedly not evincing any interest in improving the present state of the road. Now, the common people of the area are waiting to see if the higher authority of the PWD takes any step to improve the dilapidated condition of the road.
