The Army gave cause for cheer to denizens of Dibrugarh district’s remote areas. Horaighat village was witness to a Solar Street Lights System being installed and handed over to its Gaon Budha.
Conceptualised by the DAH Division and executed under the aegis of 18 JAT Battalion, this unique project under the umbrella of the Indian Army’s OPERATION SADBHAVANA aims to provide even remote areas like Horaighat with street lights that are fueled by solar power. Such bio-friendly and self-sustaining initiatives by the Army under OPERATION SADBHAVANA give a fillip to the government’s effort of providing far – flung and underdeveloped areas with basic infrastructure which still remains an unrealised dream for our rural folk.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, 2nd commanding officer Col K.roa, who inaugurated the Solar Street Lights system by switching them on post the ribbon cutting, said “that the Army is but a microcosm of society and we need to give back to that very society which made us into Armymen by means of such OPERATION SADBHAVANA schemes”. Albeit infinitesimally small at the micro level, nevertheless these projects have, at the macro level, been a succour to the disturbed regions of the country, a testament to which process was the large congregation that attended this function and made it a resounding success.
