Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman at Raha
“Common people are most of the time unaware of the welfare policies and programmes implemented by the governor . But a multimedia publicity programme at the grassroot level like the Public Information Campaign (PIC) om Bharat Nirman will help , in a big way, to generate awarness among awarness all about the government “ this was oberserved by Nagaon ADC P K Talukdar while delivering a speech at the inaugural function of the PIC on Bharat Nirman at Raha Sporting Association ground on March 16.
The ADC spoke about the socio-economic infrastructure in rural areas which was being strengthened through the Bharat Nirman Programme for the development of the poorest of the poor.
The four day special awarness campaign was organized by PIB and other media units of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in co-operation with Nagaon district administration.Various components of Bharat Nirman and the Flagship Programme like ICDS , NRHM, MGNREGA, Prime Minister’s 15 point programme for minorities and RTI are being highlighted in details during the campaign in the district.
Raha development block BDO Bhaskar Borbora also spoke about MGNREGA at the inaugural session.He said in his speech that MGNREGA is gradually bringing change in the life of the rural people.
Speaking on the progress of ICDS in the district DSWO Monideepa Saikia said that their thrust has been on better nutrition for children and mothers which will help in achieving the ultimate goal of having a better human resource in the country.District media expart Mahruf Alam also spoke on NRHM at the inaugural function.Among other speakers of the inaugural day were PWD SDO Atul Chandra Baishya,DEEO K K Baruah , ASEB Assistant Manager Badal Bora and Nagaon AE Babul Saikia.

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. According to police, the arrested Pranjal Deka had nexus with Tiwa insurgency group Tiwa Liberation Army ( TLA ) and came to Raha on an extortion drive at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.

A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
