The Centre for Science and Environment, a New Delhi-based research and advocacy organisation, has announced a month-long course on environment management in India. The course starting on June 1 will be conducted by CSE’s education and training unit – the Anil Agarwal Green Centre or AAGC – and has been titled ‘Agenda for survival: A certificate course on the policies and practices of environmental management in India’.
Thirty young professionals and college students from any stream will be selected for the course, stated in a CSE statement. The aim of this course is to build up and nurture interest and awareness in the area of environment and its management, added in the statement.
The courses those will be covered in programme include the climate change & global environmental governance, state of India’s environment, environmental movement in India, poverty and the biomass economy, ecological rights & natural resource management, land and its use, conservation & conflict, urban growth challenges, sustainable industrialisation & public health concerns etc.
“Over the one month of its duration, it will allow the participants to explore the complexities underlying the environment-development debate in India through a variety of tools and methodologies – lectures, readings and seminars, presentations, debates, film shows, interviews, and a week-long field trip,” informed Sharmila Sinha of Centre for Science and Environment.
Participants in the course will also be expected to report for, edit and design a magazine as part of course assignments. Moreover, a week-long field trip to rural India will also be organized to explore eco-restoration efforts at the grassroots level.
