Celebration of International Women’s Day at Darrang

In the centenary year of the International Women’s Day Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Darrang organized a two days Awarness cum Training Programme on Women Empowerment on 8th and 9th March,2010 at Youth Club, Mangaldai. Realizing the importance of Women Empowerment DRDA, Darrang sponsored the programme and rendered full cooperation in conducting the programme.


The inaugural ceremony of the programme was presided over by Dr. N. N. Pujari, Sr. Extension Specialist and Incharge of KVKs under Assam Agricultural University (AAU). At the outset, on behalf of the organizers Dr. T. P. Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Darrang welcome the participants and distinguished guests. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. S. K. Dutta, Associate Director of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat and described the history and importance of Women’s Day, Need of Women Empowerment in social upliftment and role, activity and mandates of KVK in this regard. Mrs Rani Devi, noted social worker of Darrang in her speech as guest of honour urged upon Women force to come forward for individual and social development. Distinguished guests Sri J. N. Hazarika, Sri N. Bora of DRDA, Darrang and Md. T. Hussain, SDAO, Mangaldai spoke on the occasion. In his presidential speech Dr. N. N. Pujari congratulated KVK and DRDA, Darrang for organizing the programme and expressed hope for a permanent solution of establishing the KVK, Darrang in a suitable site at the earliest. More than 100 participants of more than 30 Women SHGs have participated the programme.


The open session was ended by vote of thanks by Dr. D. Borthakur of KVK, Darrang followed by the training sessions where Mr. N. Bora of DRDA, Darrang, Ms. M. Bora of SATRA, NGO Sipajhar, Mr. S. Saharia of Mangaldai College, Mr. A. Kakoty of AGVN, Mangaldai, Mr. L. Das of NABARD, Darrang and Mr. N. H. Hazarika of Fishery Department, Darrang delivered their valuable lectures as resource person on various aspects of Women Empowerment.


In the valedictory session the Project Director of DRDA, Darrang Mr. Rakesh Kumar, IAS expressed satisfaction on the programme and in near future also he urged to have such programmes for the greater interest of the society. Three best Women SHGs of Darrang district for the year 2009-2010 were also felicitated in the valedictory function for their outstanding performances.

Ceremonial harvesting of Rice cultivated by SRI at Nagaon

The Nagaon District cell of National Food Security Mission (NFSM) organised a “Harvesting Ceremony” on SRI (System of Rice Intensification) on Boro Rice at Salaguri village near Dhing on the 22nd June, 2010. A SHG of 10 farmers of the locality cultivated the Boro Hybrid variety Arize 6444 by SRI method in 30 bighas of land with technical support and guidance from departmental officers and scientists from KVK. Technology Showcasing started in Nagaon

Showcasing of Improved Agricultural technologies, a noble concept pioneered by the Assam Agricultural University has already started in Nagaon district with free distribution of seeds of “Ranjit” variety of rice in Raha and Phulaguri on the 29th May last. The Nagaon District cell of National Food Security Mission(NFSM) organised a “Field Day” on SRI (System of Rice Intensification) on Boro Rice at Salaguri village near Dhing on 25th of May, 2010.
