Mithinga freed from jail

ULFA publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary was freed on Thursday 48 hours after he procured bail from a local TADA court. The jailed ULFA top gun who has been languishing in Guwahati after he was captured in Bhutan during Operatrion All Clear, was freed on Thursday in presence of his family members who later took away him to his birth place Barama in Nalbari district of Assam. His release is significant in view of the stepped up efforts to hold talk between government and the ULFA. Another ULFA leader vice chairman Pradeep Gogoi is also set to be freed in a day or two. His was also granted bail on Tuesday by a TADA court which is considered to be a significant steps for holding talk with the government.

Noted sports organizer and senior Congress leader Phani Sarma breathed his last at his own residence at Bamunimaidam here at 7.15 a.m. today. He was 76.He was the treasurer of ruling Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and also involved with many other socio-cultural organizations of the State. India wins rain curtailed one day match

Belfast : India won a rain curtailed one day match against Ireland. North Indians with ULFA link

Sibasagar police has arrested four individual for alleged links with ULFA. Among them three individuals are from Sibasagar and one from Moran. The individuals have been arrested for assisting in collection and supplying huge amount of money to ULFA. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mr Pradeep from Nivedon Stores, Mr Radheshyam from Apsara Store and another all hailing from Sibasagar and Mr Bikash Agarwal from Moran. Ironically while on the one hand ULFA is threatening North Indians to leave Assam at the same time we find them also assisting the ULFA.

The first Mobile Banking facility in Assam was inaugurated in Diphu on 21st July,2007. Blast in the Time of Festival: 5 dead, 20 injured

Guwahati: In yet another ‘handiwork,’ ULFA explodes a powerful bomb in the busy Machkhowa areas on Saturday morning at around 7-30 which left four people dead and more than twenty injured.The blast that rocks again in the time of the grand Ambubachi mela atop Kamakhya and Asian Athletic Grand Prix at Sarusajai, took place in front of a mosque. Guwahati: A powerful bomb that explodes in the city on Saturday morning leaves four people dead besides more than twenty injured.he explosion took place at Machkhowa and that too in front of a mosque at a daily vegetable market at around 7-30 am.
