Field Day on Oilseeds organized by KVK, Nagaon

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon under the administrative control of Assam Agricultural University has taken up special initiatives for improvement of livelihood and nutritional security in the district of Nagaon. During the current rabi season, the KVK has been conducting Frontline Demonstration programmes in the farmers’ field on Boro rice, Toria, Lentil, Rajmah and Wheat in 20 hectares of land. As a part of FLDs, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised a “Field Day” on Toria (Rapeseed mustard) at Borigaon village of Raidingia near Nagaon on January 22. The objectives of the programme was to show the demonstrated technologies in farmers’ field condition in order to popularize the latest technologies like varieties, agro-techniques etc. among the farmers. The meeting was presided by Dhiren Borah, a noted social worker of the locality. Addressing the gathering of around 100 farmers Chief Guest of the meeting Dr. B.Barman, Chief Scientist, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Shillongani highlighted the research achievements of the Station and requested the farmers to adopt the new techniques for a better and quality yield of crops. In his welcome address, Dr T.P.Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagaon explained the objective of KVK and requested the farmers to utilize the services of KVK for overall development of their livelihood. The meeting was also attended by Principal Scientists of RARS viz., Dr H.Kalita and Dr Dalim Pathak and Arup Bora, ADO of Deptt. of Agriculture. In addition a number of progressive farmers including Gobin Borah and Bhumidhar Borah exchanged their views regarding successful experience in scientific cultivation of rabi crops like Toria, Rajmah, Lentil and Wheat and expressed their satisfaction for implementation of the programme at their locality.


A farmer-scientist interaction on field problems of agriculture as well as on allied disciplines was also held as a part of the programme where Drs B. Barman, H.Kalita, D. Pathak of RARS and Drs T.P.Saikia, B. Dutta and Ms. A.M.Deka, Mr. C.K.Deka and Mr. D.Nath of KVK took part as resource persons in the interactive session. Lastly Field visit to different demonstrated crop fields was also organized to have on the spot assessment of the new technologies and to share the experiences of participating farmers with others. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Diren Nath of KVK Nagaon.
