Photo of an unusual four-storied "Bhelleghar" constructed by villagers at Lathapara, near Naamkhola in Darrang district which had attracted large number of people for a few days till January 15.

Firstly I want to thanks the villagers of Lathapara and the young boy who created this Bhelaghar. I appreciate you that this is a nice work. I live in guwahati in concrit jungle but i am a lover of Meji. I create in this year Meji and Bhelaghar with my friends. In our locality there have no sufficient bamboo. I hope please you will create this type of Bhelaghar. Thanks

Regular deaths of wild elephants in the tea gardens of Udalguri resented

The alarming unnatural deaths of the wild elephants in the tea gardens of Udalguri district has been resented all over the state. So far four wild elephants have lost their lives and two narrowly escaped death in the district in the current year. Another shocking example of the death of a baby wild elephant in Udalguri district has come to light to much disappointment of people. Instead of finding the cause of death, the dead body was dumped quickly without performing the postmortem. Mysterious death of an elderly unmarried woman at Jhakuapara village under Kalaigaon police station in Udalguri district has created sensation in the areas. The eight years old female elephant which had been mercilessly tortured by locals near Koramore on August 9 was rescued by forest and civil administration under police and CRPF protection on August 11.It was given first aid veterinary treatment for several days under the guidance of Dr.KC Chamua, VAS, Tangla.
