Photo of an unusual four-storied "Bhelleghar" constructed by villagers at Lathapara, near Naamkhola in Darrang district which had attracted large number of people for a few days till January 15.

Firstly I want to thanks the villagers of Lathapara and the young boy who created this Bhelaghar. I appreciate you that this is a nice work. I live in guwahati in concrit jungle but i am a lover of Meji. I create in this year Meji and Bhelaghar with my friends. In our locality there have no sufficient bamboo. I hope please you will create this type of Bhelaghar. Thanks

The first Aryabhatta Science Building in Udalguri district has been inaugurated at Kalaigaon on September 26 with day long events. Science exhibition at Tangla

A science cum Art & craft exhibition was organized at Tangla English Medium HS (TEMHS) on September 16 and 17 recently.Fifty numbers of attractive science models,mostly working models were diaplayed by the students which could draw appreciation from people.An art and craft exhibition was also arranged by students showing various paintings and hand made designs of bamboo,wood and fibres.Students and teachers of various schools of Tangla and neighbourhood visited the exhibition on both the days.Tapan Bhattacharjya,principal of THEMHS told this correspondent that they had been organising such exhibitions each year to motivate students for creative innovation.

Noted Gandhian Sarat Deka passes away

Noted Gandhian worker and lifelong follower of Vinoba Bhabe,Sarat Chandra Deka breathed his last at his residence at Kalaigaon on September 19 at 7 pm.He was 85 years old at the time of his demise.Sarat Ch Deka (born in December in 1930) had been an inborn dedicated follower of Mahatma Gandhi and Sarvodaya founder Vinoba Bhabe.He personally accompanied Vinoba Bhabe during Bhoodan/Gramdan and Sarvodaya movement in Assam during 1962. Medical camp along Indo-Bhutan border

A health camp was recently organized at Bongurum on July 30 for the villagers living near India-Bhutan international border. The health camp was organised by NRHM,Udalguri in association with ' Elephants on the Line' an India-Bhutan-USA joint public programme to mitigate man-elephant conflict in villages bordering India-Bhutan international boundary. Deal with wild elephants

Despite repeated requests, the forest department has been failing to deal with the situation. This has forced the local residents to stag dharna at Paneri demanding immediate action.The angry villagers have threatened to go to any extent if forest department fails to address the grievances.Assam Wildlife Bord member Mubina Akhtar requested the PCCF(W) for taking immediate action to track the loners.

3 killed in elephant attack

Three people including a women died when a herd of wild elephants unleashed terror at a remote village in Udalguri on Tuesday.Wild elephants arrived in the tiny village bordering Bhutan in the evening spearing panic among the villagers who had to flee to safe places.The first victim was Purki Jhora whom the elephants trampled to death at Jhorabasti village near Garuajhar on Monday.The second incident took place in Satghaoria village on Tuesday wee hours where the victim was Deogi Munda.Thirdly, identified as Bristi Boro, the local resident of Bhootiachang was killed at around 3-30 in the early morning.Moreover, a 12-year old girl sustained injury in the attack at Bamunjuli tea garden where...
