Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

Three KLNLF cadres were killed in three separate encounters with army in Bokolialghat in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday. According to information, two camps of the Karbi rebels outfits have been busted in the district during the on going operation. We in the our earlier report had that A KLNLF cadre died at an encounter with army at Bokolialghat in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday wee hours. According to information, the deceased was identified as Ritwik Hensik. Army have further recovered a nine mm pistol made in America with 12 round of live ammunition from the encounter site.as identified as Ritwik Hensi.
Mohini Rabha, wife of Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha dies on Wednesday. She was 79. She breathed her life at her own residence in Tezpur at around 4:30 in the morning.

There is report of simmering tension in Jalpaiguri district early on Tuesday morning as supporters of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha and anti-Gorkhaland group clashed with the Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad (ABAVP) activists. According to information, the incident took place after GJM supporters raided and ransacked the house of a ABAVP leader, John Barla, in Lalkipara tea estate area.Irked by the ransacking of their leader's house, ABAVP activists torched three houses of GJM supporters in the area.
A major tragedy has been averted in Guwahati on Tuesday morning when police recovered a powerful bomb at Fancy Bazar area. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Monday has made it clear that none of its top leaders have been using the soil of Bangladesh as its base. In a statement ULFA president Arabinda Rajkhowa said it’s a conspiracy to malign their image. Rajkhowa said there is no question of using the soil of Bangladesh while they are continuing the struggle for an end to the colonial rule of new Delhi. He alleged that the government has ignored any steps for a dignified political settlement of the conflict.He further alleged that the government has been blaming it all on the ULFA after successfully making a series of explosions in public place.
Operations against ULFA rebels gets intensified throughout the state with a few days left for Republic Day. According to information, police have some inputs that the banned outfit have smuggled consignments of arms and ammunition into Assam to foment more trouble in the run-up to the Republic Day.Director General of Police G.M. These rebels were planning a major strike with arms and ammunition.Army's Red Horn division has recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Belaghat in Karbi Anglong district on Monday morning. According to information, these include 500 gram of explosive materials, 255 detonators, 337 ammunition of AK series rifles, 163 ammunition of 9mm and 95 ammunition of 7.62 rifles.
