Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

Assam Congress leader and health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma says the main Opposition AGP virtually surrendered before BJP when both the parties struck seat sharing deal in Delhi. The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is holding its crucial steering committee meeting on Saturday to finetune the list of the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The Assam Assembly has cleared a Rs 1,85,056 crore interim budget for April to July 2009 after it was tabled in the House by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is holding the finance portfolio on Satrurday. Gogoi presented the Vote-on-Accounts in the brief one-day budget session as the government could not lay the full budget for 2009-10 with the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections slated from April 16. The United Liberation Front of Asom says Indian citizenship has nothing to do those struggling for an independent Assam.In its mouthpiece Freedom, the banned insurgent outfit has made it plain that they left Indian citizenship right from the day they floated the outfit aiming at an independent Assam to make an end to the colonial rule with an era of exploitation. The clarification has come up a week after Assam Public Works, an NGO demanded cancellation of Indian citizenship for ULFA chief Paresh Baruah if he fails to come forward for talks before the upcoming Rongali Bihu.
The Asom United Democratic Front, NCP, CPI, CPM leaders are holding a crucial meeting in the city of Guwahati on Saturday to finalise the seat sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll in Assam slated for April 16 and 23. Guwahati Press Club with the support from ERD Foundation, Guwahati has declared a short term fellowship programme to study various aspects of pavement dwellers (primarily beggars) of the city. A suspected ILFA cadre and a civilian died in two separate incidents of firing at the Bhoiratoli village under Hajo police station on Wednesday night.According to information, two suspected ULFA militants shot dead a farmer at around 8 in the evening forcing police and army to launch a masive manhunt. Police and army personnel raided the village and it resulted in an encounter where the suspected ULFA rebel died. A nine M M pistol has been recovered from him.
