Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

All the eleven members of “Project Assam” of Nanda Talukdar Foundation this morning met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at his 7 Race Course Road residence to ceremonially present “Assam” – the first-ever coffee table book highlighting the heritage of Assam.

The United Liberation Front of Asom on Monday makes it plain and simple that it is averse to hold any talk with the givernment in the absence of Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah who is still at large. This was disclosed by the jailed publicity secretary of the rebel outfit Mithinga Daimary who was brought to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital for health check up.
Humancipation group under social project initiatives of Darwin School of Business (DSB) organise a seminar on human rights at Icon Academy on 11th January. Mr. Sawpon Dowerah, Principal of Icon Academy inaugurated the seminar and he elaborately spoken on various aspects of human rights. There was interaction with the audience after his speech. Ranjan K Baruah, Social Projects Coordinator of DSB spoken on Right to Food and other human rights issues. He had appealed to the people to become human rights defender. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduledto call on Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday who is on a three day visit to India. Two hardcore ULFA rebels were killed at an encounter with security forces in Assam on Sunday wee hours. The encounter took place at Khetri in the oitskirt of the city of Guwahati where securuty forces claimed to have seized a huge cache of explosives and weapons from the spot.
According to informaiton, a joint team of police and securuity focrces conducted an operation acting on a tip off that a three-member group of ULFA rebels was hiding in the area. The encounter lasted for nearly 30 minutes where the ULFA rebels died on the spot. One of the rebels, however, managed to flee from the spot. The deceased have yet to be identified.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday sees some sort of positive development in terms of talk with the government.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Gogoi said talks minus ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Barua is possible. The Chief Minister said, "we donot have a definite reply from ULFA but the signals are quite positive." He said the doors are still open and the government wants every body to be present in the talk. But he was quick to add "talks can still take place without Paresh Baruah."

A stunning revelation by an Bangladesh minister touches off a seismic wave of reaction across India two days before the arrival of Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina.
According to a ballestic revelation, former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf had a secret meet with jailed ULFA leader Anup Chetia during a visit to Dhaka. Quoting senior Bangladesh minister Ashraful Islam, a section of media reports that Musharraf came to Dhaka in July 2002 where he met Chetia at the Sheraton Hotel.
Chetia was arrested from Dhaka during the 1996-2001 Awami League regime and still is in custody despite the expiry of his jail term in connection with a case of cross-border intrusion.
