Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

The dreaded H1N1 claims its first victim in Assam when a 20 year old college girl dies at GMCH on Sunday. According to information, Sikha Biswas a student of Hiteswar Saikia College in Panjabari in Guwahati in the wee hours on Sunday. Before shifting to GMCH, Sikha, a resident of Jagiriad station Road, was admitted to Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati 13 days back. Her body was taken to Jagiroad in the morning.
Guwahati has been a safe haven for a section of ULFA rebels for the last couple of months who are waiting to strike the city with huge explosions. The city police have arrested a suspected ULFA militant and recovered explosives from him on Saturday night. Police came to see an ULFA militant at around 9.30 p.m. near the IOC refinery Noonmati as a joint team of police and CRPF was on routine patrolling. ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and his military sopkesman Raju Baruah have been remanded to judicial custody after they were produced before the camp court inside the Guwahati Central jail on Saturday.
Rajkhowa's security guard Raja Borah who was also produced in the camp court would be taken to Dibrugarh in connection with a pending case against him. Rajkhowa and two others were remanded to 9 day police custody in connection with serial explosion in the Guwahati city on January 1 this year.
Meanwhile, a set of leaflets are being distributed among the journalists by an unknown circle urging both government and ULFA for holding a meaningful dialogue immediately.

At least 4 NDFB cadres were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Sonitpur district during the last 24 hours.. The first one encounter took place with security forces at Mainasree hill in the district bordering Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The encounter took place at around 3 in the morning. One of the three rebels, managed to escape.
