5 killed in mishap at Raha : burnt into ashes

5 persons were killed in a tragic road accident when the Indigo car they were travelling hit with a concreate wall by the NH -37 , at Phulaguri under Raha Police station. The car immediately burnt into ashes soon it hit the concreate wall. The lifeless bodies are still not identified as they turned into ashes. According to Police, the mishap took place at around 1 am today and the car was on the way to Nagaon from Guwahati.


The deceased identified as Pranjal Phukan, asst. General Manager Kalidian tea estate, his wife Dr. Rubi Borthakur who was a lecturer of Digboi women's college and their two daughters Nishita and Rwiti. They all belong to one family where as the fifth occupant of the vehicle was identified as Pradip, their domestic help. The registration number of the vehicle that went up in flames was AS-01-AK-3980.

Dr Apurba Kumar Saikia, a noted short story writer of Assam, was conferred the Jadab Sarma Memorial award at the Chandra Prasad Saikia Kshetra at the Nagaon Book Fair ground recently. Not less than 176 voters under Baghara Gaon Panchayat will be deprived from casting vote in the ensuing Panchayat polls in Morigaon district.According to sources, the names of the villagers of Middhralipather whose names omitted from the voters' list, were all Assamese people. An Executive Member (EM) of Tiwa Autonomous Council, Hema Kanta Deka was arrested by police on November 10 on charges of cheating and illicit collection of money from unemployed youth of various parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts assuring them government jobs. A police source revealed that Hema Kanta Deka, who also served as General Secretary of Morigaon District Youth Congress, has been pocketing lakhs of rupees from hundreds of unemployed youth since 1992, assuring them jobs specially teachers' ones in LP and ME schools of the aforesaid districts.
