Arabinda Rajkhowa arrested

In an ultimate blow to ULFA, and other insurgent outfits in the northeast India, ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa has been arrested in Bangladesh yesterday. The arrest is significant development, a few days before both India and Bangladesh are set to sign an extradition treaty. Details awaited.

Its an awesome news infact. From now on the *** such as extortion and nuisance by an armed business group operating from a foreign land is expected to end. Commendable feat by the UPA lead Govt, in concern for NE. P Chidambaram has really been a very successful in controlling the terror pockets of the nation.

Gogoi claims all round development

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said Assam has developed on all fronts. In his address at the anniversary function at Sarusajai function on Saturday, Gogoi said that the state now ranks in third position in the human resources development index. He said the state has set record the food grain production during his regime and that in health, education sectors also the state has changed its face.

ULFA bandh cripples normal life

The ULFA sponsored statewide shutdown call ended peacefully on Saturday. ULFA’s the anti- talk faction led by Paresh Baruah to gave the call to oppose Sonia Gandhi’s visit to participate in the first anniversary function of the Gogoi Government. The group also triggered a bomb blast in Tinsukia district Friday night killing one person. Amid tight security arrangements, Gandhi, as scheduled, addressed a huge gathering at Sarusojai stadium. The stadium was the venue for the celebrations of the Congress government's first anniversary of its third consecutive term in the state.

Bandh paralyses normal life in Goalpara

Youth Shot Dead at Dhupdhara

A 27 years old youth was found dead at Landakhunda village, bordering Assam-Meghalaya, under Dhupdhara police station in Goalpara district early in the morning today. The youth was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as two marks of bullet holes on his chest. The body was found lying on a village road with both of his hands were tightened with his own shirt. Top Maoist leader in NIA remand

National Investigation Agency got remand of Maoist leader Indranil Chandra, alias Ajay Das for seven days after he was produced before a special court in Guwahati on Wednesday. Chandra, who heads Maoist offensive in Assam, was brought to Guwahati from Kolkata where he was recently arrested. He was produced in a NIA designated court in Guwahati and remanded to seven days of NIA custody. Chandra, hailing from Burdwan district of West Bengal, had visited the state several times to coordinate with the local Maoist cadres.
