JFA hails high court decision

The Journalists’ Forum, Assam (JFA) on Tuesday hailed the Gauhati High Court decision to admit a revision petition on the Parag Kumar Das murder case as a glimmer of hope for those who still believe in the rule of law and expect a logical end to the lingering case. It was stated in a JFA statement.


The JFA also thanked the people of Assam for writing letters to the high court in the form of an appeal seeking a review of the sessions court verdict. It may be recalled here that a JFA-organised citizens’ meet on August 7 at Guwahati Press Club, had called upon the people to issue such an appeal through letters. The meeting on that day requested the people to hand over to the family of Parag Kumar Das any conclusive or useful proof that could strengthen the case against the accused in a higher court. In its release on Tuesday, the JFA renewed its appeal.


The August 7 meeting had also made a plea for a special investigation team (SIT) to be constituted and monitored by the high court to go into the Parag Kumar Das case and trace the culprit. The JFA still maintains that stand.
