Guwahati : Security forces have decided to launch joint operations against ULFA and KLNLF militants according to well-placed government sources This is obvious, as militants had killed 34 Hindi speaking people in the last five days in Karbi Anglong.Earlier a meeting of the Strategic Group of Unified Command Structure held at Guwahati today discussed about the situation and decided to send 15 more company Para-military forces to Karbi Anglong immediately. Assam chief Minister Tarun Gogoi presided over this meeting, where Special Secretary (Internal Security) of the ministry of Home Affairs, M L Kumwat, and Director NE of the ministry A K Goel, DG, BSF, A K Mitra and his CRPF counterpart S I S Ahmed, GOC IV Core and representatives of different security and intelligence organizations were also present The meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the state in view of the Independence Day celebrations. Later they had attended another meeting at Rani BSF camp where all senior officers of security agencies engaged in counter insurgency operations were also present. Meanwhile the panic-stricken Hindi-speakers have started fleeing Assam fearing more attacks. According to sources hundreds of families have been fed to safer places to save their lives. District Administration of Karbi Anglong has advised every Hindi-speaking people living in the district to take shelter in temporary relief camps till Independence Day of the country is over. Authorities have opened two such camps to shelter Hindi speakers. More than 250 families have already been moved to these two shelters. But there are thousands, who denied flying away and decided to stay back, where they have been living since the days of their forefathers. Meanwhile North East Frontier Railways has rescheduled all trains that travel in night to day hours through trouble torn Karbi Anglong on 14 and 15th of August and. Union Home Minister for state Sriprakash Jaiswal has reached Assam on Tuesday morning to take stock of the situation. Properties worth several lakh have been reduced to ashes when a
massive fire broke out in Guwahati on Monday.
Initially, the fire broke out at a shop in Junali area which later
spread to the adjacent shops. Five fire tenders have been rushed to
the spot to douse the flames. The reason is yet to be ascertained but
according to preliminary report the fire originated from the electric
short circuit.
Security forces in Tinsukia district recovered a huge cache of
explosives on Sunday.
Acting on a tip off army and police raided a house in Laila Dhulijan
where a huge cache of explosives were recovered. These include 3
bottle grenades and 12 detonetor sticks along 2 KG RDX, 2 Chinese
grenades. The explosives were recovered after security forces arrested
an ULFA militant in the area.
In a bizarre incident that runs into a statewide shockwave, a woman allegedly hacked to death her husband during a quarrel over his persistent drinking habit in Sibsagar district on Sunday. The incident took place early on Sunday, when Lalita Chettri attacked her husband, who was in his early 40s, with an axe after the couple had an argument over the husband's drinking habit. Lalita's husband Prasad Chettri died on the spot. The woman was arrested.

Renowned film personality Biju Phukan has been hospitalized again on Sunday. Phukan was rushed to the Namecare Hospital after he complained uneasiness in the afternoon. He left the hospital after month long treatment of stork last week. Sources said his condition is stable.

A hardcore GNLA militant was killed at an encounter with security forces in Goalpara district of Assam bordering Meghalaya on Saturday. The encounter took place in Dudhnoi where dreaded militant of the Garo outfit Aasela Sangma was killed in the morning. Goalpara superintendent of police Shymal Saikia claimed to have recovered an US made carbine, 2 magzines a radio set from the spot.
