Pramila Rani Brahma, Agriculture Minister, Assam has given stress upon farm mechanization in the state to ensure double cropping and to attract new generation towards agricultural sector. In this context, Rs.40 crore is allotted to distribute different types of farm machineries including tractor, power tiller etc. at subsidize rate to the farmers group under Assam Vikash Yojana. Agriculture Minister Brahma said that, government has decided to allot 5 nos. of tractors for each goan panchayat to distribute among farmers group at subsidize rate.
Brahma was distributed 12 nos. of tractors ceremonially among the farmers groups of Kokrajhar and Chirang district at subsidize rate under Assam Vikash Yojana on 9th June last. The meeting was presided over by Mono Kumar Brahma, Executive Member, Bodoland Territorial Council, where several dignitaries including Parameshwar Brahma, Parliamentary Secretary and J P Meena, Agricultural Production Commissioner & Principal Secretary were also present.
In her speech, Brahma said that, Assam has attaining self-sufficiency in case of rice. At present Assam has produced 41 lakh MT of rice against the state requirement of 38 lakh MT of rice. The rice producers of Assam gaining more market price due to good quality of rice. In this context, they decided to sale their rice in the market. On the other hand, they are going for consuming rice distributed through Public Distribution System, because of the cheaper price. So we should not wrongly interpret that Assam has to import rice from outside state, due to less production of rice in the state, Minister said. Agriculture Minister also said that, the FCI has decided to procure rice from Assam, after her pursuance with the central government. FCI has already procured 500 MT of paddy from Assam farmers till now.
