The boundary wall of the recently launched Mega Food Park at Nathkuchi (near Tihu under Nalbari district) collapsed. The newly constructed 150 meter of boundary wall of the park, which is first of its king in Northeast India, broke down last week. It is expected to create employment for nearly 30,000 people.
Mentionable that, the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the food park in February. The aim of the food park is to provide the basic facilities and common infrastructure to stimulate investment in the food processing sector.
The project has been funded by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries with other sector participation like Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd.
“The Mega Food Park would strengthen and optimise the alignment of the supply chain from farm to plate and leverage investments of about Rs 250-300 crore in processing units in the park,” Gogoi said.
