Blast in Guwahati before election rally

One person died and atleast sixteen others injured when ULFA made powerful blast at Lalganesh area in Guwahati on Tuesday.

According to information, the incident took place at around 5-30 in the afternoon near Shankar Hotel and the bomb was planted at a motorcycle which exploded to leave one dead and ten others injured. The injured were shifted to the Guwahati medical College Hospital.

The blast rocked the area an hour before Union minister Pranab Mukherjee was to attend a function in the evening. Minutes after the incident, top ranked police and civil officials rushed to the spot and investigation is on.

Some of the injured persons have been identified as Narayan Dutta, Bubu Gogoi, Raju Bora, Govinda Chetti, Raju Pandit, Ram Narayan Roy, satish Dutta, Mantu Chetti.

Police had prior information: According to information, Guwahati police had prior information that a three member ULFA teram has managed to sneak into the city of Guwahati to greet President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with blast. Hardcore ULFA cadre Nilim Daimary is believed have led the hardcore ULFA team. More balsts in the city areas are feared if the team further manages to carry out further attack. The blast took place on Tuesdfay hours before external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee was to attend a function in Lalganesh.

On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited the blast siter at around 8-30 in the evening and condemned it in strogest possible term and has asked police to deal with the situation efficiently. Condemnation are pouring in. AGP, BJP along with other political parties are condemning the incident. AGP president CM Patowary, BJP leader Bijoya Chakrabarty have visited the blast site before leaving for the Guwahati medical College Hospital. Talking to reporters, she pinned the blame on the government for its failure to deal with the situation.

Killing inocent people can not help any organisation. It is greatly deplorable and need condemnnation by all right thinking people. I wish speedy recovery to all the people who suffered wound.

Militancy/terrorism can't sustain itself without the support of local people. Why this particular group of local Indians supporting it? Even though educated and knowing that all this actions of terror will never deliver anything good for the society. Let we all Indians come together and do whatever possible to aweken all our brothers and sisters to stand against this type of incidents and bring back the lost glory of our North East and India.

AOD: AASU ready for intensified agitation.

The All Assam Students Union has said it have no option but to take resort to an intensified agitation if the Indian Oil Corporation further cariues forward its bid to take over the Assam Oil Division.Addressing a press meet on Monday, AASU president Shankar Prasad Roy, alleged that IOC is conspiring to take over the Assam Oil Division. They said IOC business with AOD has been successful. They further produced a letter by R K Bhargabh, a joint secretary of the petroleum ministry on October 14, 1981 asking the Indian Oil Corporation to give autonomy to the AOD to run the business with the symbol of red rhino.

Gas cracker to be completed in time: B K Handique

Union minister of state for fertiliser, chemicals and mining, Bijoy Krishna Handique announced that the multi crore gas cracker project will be completed in time albeit land requisition is delaying some problems. Speaking to reporters on Monday in Changsari, he said the Prime Minister has instructed the gas cracker authorities to expedite the work on the multi crore project proposed in the historic Assam Accord, 1985. according to him, land requisition process is nearing completion but there is some difficulties due to some matters relating to compensation.The proposed project if completed play an important role in the economy of the north eastern region.

4 died of mushroom consumption in Tinsukia: death toll in Assam goes up to 25

Four people died on Monday after they consumed poisonous mushroom they brought from forest in Tinsukia district. Accoding to information, these people in the remote area themselves brought the mushroom from the nearby forest. With this, the death toll due to the consumption of mushroom has gone up to 25. Before that, five people of a same family died in Palengi Jiamari gaon in Sivasagar. This was followed by the death of altogether 13 people in Golagaht district. Three people died in Jorhat on Saturday.

ULFA Raising Day: Flags flying in public places

The United Liberation Front of Asom is observing its Raising Day on Monday hoisting its flags in various public places acros the state forcing the authorities to fan security forces from early in the morning.Police and para military have seized many ULFA flags as soon as the people in the areas spotted these flying high early in the morning. Major blast averted in Namrup as Army recover bomb

A powerful blast in Namrup has been averted when Army’s 44 Field Regiment jawans recovered a bomb in the wee hours on Monday. Antony takes stock of of Indo-China border situation

NE journos body seeks safety and security

The North East Media Forum (NEMF) in New Delhi has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure safety and security of the journalists working in the north eastern states saying these scribes facing a great deal of trouble while discharging their duties and responsibilities. In a letter to the Prime Minister, the forum has said only the north eastern journalists are facing so many threats for fearless duties.The journalist body further said if this continues they will find it completely difficult to write anything highlighting the activities of the government and also make the people aware of the ill impact of the various insurgent outfits operating in the region.
