The United Liberation Front of Asom is observing its Raising Day on Monday hoisting its flags in various public places acros the state forcing the authorities to fan security forces from early in the morning.
Police and para military have seized many ULFA flags as soon as the people in the areas spotted these flying high early in the morning. The banned outfit even hoisted its flag at the Gauhati University campus which was spotted in the morning. Later police seized it.
Besides, many flags have been seized in upper Assam's Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Nagaon, Golaghat, Darrang, Goalpara districts. These flags mostly were hoisted in public places.
Notably, it was on April 7 in 1979, the banned United Liberation Front of Asom was born at the historic Ranghar premises with a vow to struggle for an independent Assam with the motto of scientific socialism.
The organiation was baned for its unlawful activities on November 28, 1991 as soon as the President's Rule was clamped in the state besides dissolving the then Prafulla Kumar Mahanta Government.
The outfit has come forward for negotiation for several times but have failed. But of late, the outfit has made it clear that it will not come for talks sans sovereignty.
