Several candidates have collected nomination papers from Monday from the returning officers for the first phase of polls in Karbi Anglong, NC hills and Cachar districts slated for April 16.
According to information, there was no filing of nominations on the first day but five candidates had collected their forms from the returning officers on Monday. Elections during the first phase of polling would be held in Autonomous Hills (ST) constituency along with Silchar and Karimganj parliamentary seats in Barak Valley.
The last date for filing nominations is March 30, while the date of scrutiny is March 31 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 2. Elections to the remaining eleven seats would be held in the second phase on April 23, for which notification will be issued on March 28.
Security forces are fanning in the nook and corner of Chamdang Tea garden area in search of the militants who exploded a powerful grenade in the wee hours. Immediately after the explosion police and CRPF jawans arrived in the spot and codoned off the entire area for search opertion. The grenade was exploded to terrorise the businessman who was beleived to have received extortion notices along with many other businessmen.
The explosion took place in Chamdang tea garden area in the wee hours when the suspected militants lobbed the grenade at the residence of businessman Mahabir Agarwalla. There is is no report of any casualty. But the building was partially damaged. Senior police officials arrived in the spot and search operation is going on. Details awaited.
Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary,who is also BTC chief has been claimed forming of BJP led alliance government in Assam on the blessing irrespectives of cast,creed and languages voting in favour of alliance parties in the assembly polls.
Mohilary,along with family members cast his vote at Debargaon Higher Secondary School polling centre this morning on the second phase Assam assembly polls for 61 constituencies of 126 member House.The Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF),an alloy of BJP led alliance is contesting 10 seats in the second phase polls,being held today in lower Assam region.
Mohilary has claimed forming of the BJP-BPF-AGP alliance in the state with scoring 100% scoring result of his party in BTAD region.The ruling Congress party would be rooted from government,because all sections of communities are supporting the BJP-BPF-AGP alliance party in both phases of the assembly polls.
Hagrama Mohilary, BPF president said,'BPF party is winning in all 13 contesting seats all over the BTAD region,besides the BJP-BPF-AGP alliance party is forming government at Dispur by winning over 70 seats in both phases.The second phase Assam assembly election is being held all over the middle Assam,lower Assam region today,the BJP led alliance party is winning in majority seats in the second phase polls.
'My party is getting strong mass support among common citizens in the state.There is no possibility of winning large number of seats from Congress,AIUDF,UPP parties in the polls', he added.

Addressing a joint press conference of the four organisations held at PWD Guest House on Wednesday, ABWWF president Mithinga Basumatary along with Bodo Writers Academy vice president Rajen Basumatary, Bodo Harimu Afad Billa Kumar Brahma and Boro Somaj president Rajendra Nath Boro said that the rearrest of the NDFB chief on September 29 would put the peace process in peril.
They demanded immediate and unconditional release of Daimary before holding peace talks with the outfit. They further urged NDFB(Songbijit faction) to come forward for peace negotiation.
