It was a sea of humanity as thousands of people across the north eastern states gathered at the Latasheel Palyground on Sunday to felicitate the noted maestro and film maker Dr Bhupen Hazarika at function organized by All Assam Students Union.
The function began with the felicitation to the living legend by several organizations from the region and outside. This was followed a thrilling cultural show that made Dr Hazarika spell bound. Dr Hazarika in his short but illuminating speech thanked the gathering and the organizers and hummed a few of his evergreen lyrics.
Later he was felicitated by a band of 671 boys boys and girls with bihu sings in their lips. They sang and danced and made the Latasheel playground a throbbing where Asom Ratna joined them.
On Saturday, Dr Hazarika unveiled his own statue made of glass fibre beside the historic Dihgalipukhuri in presence of thousands of his fans at the initiative of AASU.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) today recovered brown sugar weighing over 1 kg from the possession of three drug peddlers in the Kamakya Railway station, Guwahati this afternoon.According to GRP sources, the trio brought the brown sugar from Manipur and was heading towards Allahabad to sell it further. The estimated cost of the contraband in the international black market is around Rs 1 crore. Suspected DHD(J) militants have killed two more workers engaged in railway broad gauge construction work in North Cachar Hills district on Monday. The North Eastern Council has begun its two-day plenary session in Agartala on Monday. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Mani Shankar Aiyar the meeting is being attended by all Chief Ministers and Governors of the region, barring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting is schedule to sign 'Vision-220' document. Assam is set to be represented Minister for Planning and while PWD Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has arrived in Agartala.
