Youth Assamese journalist named global leader oftomorrow

National award winning journalist Amarjyoti Borah has been named Global Leader of the future by InWent, an international organization working on issues of capacity building and development worldwide.

Every year Inwent picks people from across the world who acts responsibly and could be a global leader in their field; they may be lawyers, journalists or professors and may be living in Peru, Ghana or Turkey. They select people who have made a mark in their field. This year they have named Amarjyoti Borah as Global Leader of the Future; for his coverage of many of the environmental issues of the North East of India. Other people selected by InWent in the previous years includes Scientist Juvy Lizette from Philippines, Julia García an Engineer from Argentina and Professor Carlos Fortes from Brazil.

Borah still went to school when he realised that he has a creative mind and the capacity to write and was literarily engaged ever since: "I was Research Associate with the literary organisation Nanda Talukdar Foundation and did research on Rural development. I am also associated with Pragjyoti Communications, a News and Feature Agency, and with Destination North East, an organisation working on various cultural, tourism and literature related issues."

Currently, Borah is a Reporter for Down to Earth, India's leading Environmental and Science Journal; and had covered many of the major issues of the North East over the years.

In 2007 Borah was adjudged the Youth Indian Environment Journalist of the Year by the Forum of Environmental Journalist in India. In 2008 he was among 15 journalists from Asia, Africa and Europe who were selected to attend a two month training program on Environmental Reporting in Germany.

"Environment is the most essential element for the survival of mankind, and it is important for the mankind to understand the dangers due to the effect of environment destruction" the young reporter states.
