Police releases photograph of blast mastermind

The city police on Friday has released a photograph of dreaded ULFA leader Pranjal Deka saying him the main culprit behind the gory incident that rocked Guwahati on the new year's day.

Police have claimed that he did it at the instance of 709 battalion commander Hira Sarania only to show the strength of the rebel outfit. Pranjal Deka alias Biju Saikia is in between 18 to 20 in age is the son of Putul Deka, a resident of Duwarkuchi in Bagsa district.

Police have received the details of the youth from the mobile phone he used bearing No 97075-28063.

Police further has got his photograph and picked up 20 persons for interrogation.

A suspected ULFA rebel died at a joint operation by police and Army in upper Assam's Sivasagar district on Tuesday morning. According to information, acting on a specific information, Army's 318 Field Regiment jawans and Charaideo police launched the operation at Rangalibatuwa area under Kakotibari police station in the district at around 3 in the morning. The rebel who died on the spot has yet to be identified. Police recovered a 9mm pistol, a magazine, three rounds of live ammunition, four electric detonators, some explosive materials and PEF sticks.
