Shameful arrest: Assam education minister Ripun Bora was arrested by CBI in Delhi on June 3 while he was trying to bribe one of its officials who was probing into the sensational Danial Topno murder case.

The Second Coming: The breakaway group of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) along with PLP united to bolster the regional politics. Both the AGP factions reunited on October 4 at the regional party’s general convention at Golaghat.

Farewell to arms: The cadres of A and C companies of ULFA’s crack unit ie 28th battalion announced an unilateral ceasefire on June 24 citing their aim at ensuring talk between ULFA and government.

String of clash: At least 55 people were killed more than two lakh people rendered homeless at the height of a communal riot that rocked Udalguri and Darrang districts of lower Assam during the first week of October.

First time first chance: Kalpana Chaudhury of Assam wowed the Asian countries striking gold at the first ever Asian Women Boxing Championship in Guwahati kickstarted on September 24.

HC summons Bhumidhar Barman

Jiten Gogoi denies involvement in secret killing

MLA Jiten Gogoi of Bokakhat, whose name appeared in the Justice KN Saikia Commission report pertaining to the 'secret killings', has expressed serious concern and said he would move even the Supreme Court to clear his name from the report.Expressing his grave resentment over his name being associated with the issue, Gogoi alleged that Justice Saikia never met him even for once during the enquiry.Terming his indictment as intentional, he spoke about his determination to take the matter to the court and to institute a defamation suit.Gogoi also apprised newsmen gathered at the Bokakhat Circuit House premises that when secret killings took place, he was neither an ULFA or SULFA man....

Group clash in the city: 12 killed, curfew in city

A string of group clash that leaves twelve people dead, as many as one hundred people injured has forced the authority to clamp curfew in the city on Saturday. The condition of thirty is reported to be critical.The violence began as soon as the Advasi people in large numbers were holding a rally demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the community.The Adivasi protesters damaged as many as 150 vehicles while these were plying in the Beltola areas. Gogoi meets Baalu, discusses road projects

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called on Union minister of shipping, road transport and highways, Thiru T.R. 48 hr central Assam bandh continues

Normal life in central Assam is partially disrupted following the 48 hour bandh call by three Tiwa students bodies from Monday morning..The roads are wearing a desert look from early in the morning.
