Widow Turns E-Rickshaw Driver to Keep Family Going

In the village of Hahchara Latum in Sivasagar, Hunamai Konwar’s determination is turning heads and inspiring hearts. Six months after losing her husband, the widow stepped into his role behind the wheel of a battery rickshaw, determined to provide for her two children and elderly in-laws.

With steady hands and unwavering spirit, Hunamai now ferries passengers across town — the same way her late husband once did. For her, it’s not just a livelihood; it’s a lifeline for her family and a message to women in her community: step forward, take charge, and never give in to despair.

Her resilience has made her a role model in the area, encouraging other women to take up work — any work — that helps them stand on their own feet. “We must move forward in life,” she says.

Hunamai’s journey is more than a personal struggle; it’s a testament to the quiet strength that can light an entire community’s path forward.
