Message of peace before Christmas

Gun will fall silent in Nagaland if the peace message that runs across the north eastern state is any indication. Festivity grips the state as the Christmas is round the corner. Only a few days are left for the festival in the state but this time it will be a festival that could usher it into a new era of peace. Pre-Christmas celebrations are underway with a message of peace.

In a swashbuckling evening on Sunday, cutting across their ideological barriers, people thronged in thousands at Mon township with dance and music. For the first time, the NSCN (Khaplang) cadres were participating in the function represented the officials of altogether 15 churches.

It was as if dance and music transformed the areas into a nest of singing birds. All stood united for peace in the state. The representatives of the Action for Life from far flung areas also participated in the function. Rob Lancarter from Australia and N Diyangui from Kenya were among those from abroad who joined the celebration.

The world observes October 16 as World Food Day. Once again another day of rhetorics to rue about the dismal food scenario (especially among the developing nations); to reiterate our noble intentions of formulating new plans to feed the starving masses by reeling out scary statistics that world wide 9 billion people are dying every year due to hunger and hunger related causes, of which more than 50% are children.Hunger accounts for more deaths than war, tuberculosis and AIDS put together. Even amongst those who escape the killing spree of hunger a whopping 1 billion are undernourished, most of whom are again children and women. And yet an almost equal number are overweight. (It is ironic...
