KOKRAJHAR, DEC 23: A one-day awareness programme on "Reclaiming the Climate for a Resilient and Sustainable Future" under the Green Bodoland Mission (GBM), an initiative by the Government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), was held at Lowerpara Panbari village in Bijni subdivision, Chirang district, on Monday.
Organized by GBM, the event focused on building a "green, smart, and peaceful Bodoland" and highlighted the mission's efforts to promote afforestation, sustainability, and community involvement.
Launched in July, the GBM has so far engaged 258 youth clubs and adopted 10 villages across the BTR. As part of its plantation drive, the mission has planted over 1.2 lakh saplings in community lands, forests, and village playgrounds across the region.
Lowerpara Panbari, a model village comprising 74 families and over 550 residents, was adopted under the mission. Plans are underway to plant over 2,000 saplings in the village, which is already recognized for its cleanliness and community spirit.
The event witnessed participation from hundreds of villagers cutting across communities, who shared their views on the mission's importance. Distinguished guests at the occasion included BTR Executive Member Dhananjay Basumatary, GBM Mission Director Manaranjan Das, UPPL Media Secretary Hantigiri Narzary, and retired teacher Kamal Kumar Basumatary.
Speaking at the event, EM Basumatary praised the Green Bodoland Mission and the leadership of BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro. He highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and community welfare in the region.
Mission Director Manaranjan Das emphasized the role of community participation in the success of the GBM. He shared that the mission involves youth clubs, NGOs, and women’s groups in organizing awareness drives on tree plantation, plastic-free environments, and sustainable living practices. He added that GBM initiatives aim to enhance human well-being and create a healthier environment for the people of Bodoland.
