Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. The award includes a citation, traditional Aronai, and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh. The festival also featured a Hills trekking competition and traditional food showcase competition.
The 12th edition of the Baokhungri Festival began on Saturday with vibrant celebrations at Baokhungri Hill in Kokrajhar district, drawing a large gathering of visitors and devotees. The three-day event is being organized by the Tourism Department of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Held annually on the eve of the Bodo New Year—marking the last day of the Choitra month—the festival ushers in the Baisak month, celebrated as Rongjali Bwisagu or Rongali Bihu, with cultural fervor and spiritual significance.
The event was inaugurated by Dharma Narayan Das, Executive Member of the BTC, who opened the main festival entrance, marking the start of a rich cultural showcase.
