KOKRAJHAR, OCT 28: Three candidates are set to contest the upcoming bye-elections in the 31 No. Sidli Legislative Assembly Constituency (ST) scheduled for November 13 in Chirang district, along with four other constituencies in Assam. Today marked the last day for withdrawal of nominations, confirming three candidates as valid contenders in Sidli LAC’s bye-election.

The contest will feature a triangular battle between Nirmal Kumar Brahma of the UPPL, backed by the NDA alliance; Suddha Kumar Basumatary of the BPF; and Sanjib Wary of the Congress. With over 216,700 voters eligible to cast their ballots across 273 polling stations, the bye-election in Sidli LAC is expected to see significant turnout, with results scheduled to be counted on November 23. Ahead of the elections, more than 400 new members from parties like the BPF and Congress have reportedly joined the ruling UPPL party at various locations under Sidli LAC, strengthening UPPL’s campaign.

A massive UPPL campaign rally was held, welcoming new members, including a notable 170 individuals from the BPF who joined in Tukrajhar, where Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLA Jiran Basumatary, and BTR executive member Ranjit Basumatary were in attendance.
