National Handloom Day 2024 Celebrated in Chirang District, BTR
KOKRAJHAR: The 10th edition of National Handloom Day 2024 was celebrated at Tukrajhar, Bengtol in Chirang district on Wednesday. The event was organised by the Department of Handloom & Textile, government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), where several hundred weavers and cluster workers participated from different areas of the BTR districts.
Several handloom clusters were accorded financial assistance under the Bodoland Handloom Mission, government of Bodoland Territorial Region, to extend support while producing multiple handloom products in the Bodoland region. The executive members of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Dhananjay Basumatary, Ranjit Basumatary, Daobaisa Boro, and Rakesh Brahma, graced the event as guests and handed over the cheques to the handloom clusters.
A showcase of the handloom products was also carried out on the occasion to mark the celebration. The Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro, extended warm greetings on the occasion of National Handloom Day. He said that the government of BTR is working dedicatedly towards the uplift and development of the Bodoland Handloom sector in the region. He informed that several initiatives have been initiated by the government of BTR to significantly advance the handloom sectors.
"Our BTR is home to rich and unique handloom products which are celebrated across the world. On this occasion, let's reaffirm our commitment to support our hardworking weavers and ensure their holistic development," CEM Boro said.

KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri. The victim was rushed to the RNB civil hospital in Kokrajhar. Mukesh Kumar of Bihar was identified as the victim.

The arrested persons were identified as Hasanur Rahman, Mithun Miya of Mankachar and Mukesh Kumar of Bihar.
The smuggled Ganja was bound for Bihar from Agartala in a Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration no.BR 11V-7551.
BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar.
Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party of Luwahati, filed a complaint against Mohilary, the former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, at the court of CJM Kokrajhar for making derogatory remarks about him in February 2020.

KOKRAJHAR: Two people were killed on the spot in a late-night road accident in Balajan Pakriguri under Kokrajhar police station.
According to police, two people were travelling on a bike and met with mishaps that claimed two people on the spot at a roadside parking dumper in Pakriguri along JD Road late at night around 2.15 am on Tuesday night under Kokrajhar police station.
The deceased were identified as Geremsha Swargiary (25) of Dumuruguri in Baksa district and Lwitwma Basumatary (26) of Narabari Kokrajhar.

Kokrajhar: The first ever edition of the All Assam Prize Money Non-Ranking Badminton Championship-2021 concluded on Tuesday after a two-day programme was scheduled to be held at the indoor stadium of the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) in Kokrajhar district.

At least three persons died and several others received injuries due to the lightning struck at Anthaibari under Bengtol police outpost in Chirang district on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the source, three persons have died and several other people from Anthaibari area received serious injuries due to heavy lightning this afternoon while people were watching a football match at Anthaibari playground.
