Workshop held on manuscript preparation and painting in Sankari art form

Guwahati, 31st July: A five-day workshop was held manuscript preparation and painting in Sankari art form in Guwahati from July 26 to 30 under the auspices of the Department of Historical and Antiquarian Studies (DHAS) and in the precinct of DHAS , in association with Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva). Artists from Guwahati, Nagaon, Golaghat, Tezpur etc including teachers, students as well as staff of the Department of Historical and Aquarian Studies participated in the workshop. The participants prepared Sanchipat folios themselves and drew paintings thereon, under the guidance of resource person Mridu Moucham Bora.

The workshop was inaugurated on 26th in presence of Dr. Sanjib Kr Borkakoti, President of SSS, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hatibarua, Director of DHAS, journalist-author Pulin Kalita and author Dr. Rashna Rajkhowa. It ended on 30th with an exhibition of the paintings prepared by the participants, which was inaugurated by Ms. Snigdha Hasnu.

The valedictory function on 30th July was presided over by Dr Dhrubajyoti Hatibarua. It was attended by curator of Assam State Museum Snigdha Hansu, Director of North East Centre of Indira Gandhi National Art Centre  Suresh Ranjan Goduka, former Director of DHAS Dr. Anita Choudhury, Joint Director of Academic Staff College Bistirna Barua and Media in charge of SSS Dr. Buljit Buragohain. Librarian of DHAS Pradip Choudhury gave welcome address in the function. The invited guests inspected the exhibits of paintings and lauded the effort of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva. This was the seventh such workshop conducted by SSS. The participants of the workshop also narrated their experiences. Resource person as well as Secretary of SSS, Mridu Moucham Bora presented a report about activities of SSS. All the participants were given certificates. The workshop ended with vote of thanks by Dr Sangita Chakravarty, conservation officer of DHAS.

The workshop was organised by DEW, a socio-cultural organization of Dhing in collaboration with Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS). In a major development, NCERT has formally promised to include Srimanta Sankaradeva in school curriculum. They have communicated it to Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS). Chandra Sadayat, Prof and Head, Deptt of Education in Languages (DEL), NCERT informed SSS President Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti about it in a letter.
