Sonowal visits flood hit Hojai district

Hojai: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday took stock of various flood affected areas  in Hojai district. CM visited viz, Hatimura,Dakshin Kenduguri, Nabhanga,Jugijaan Villages here.

Notably, due to incessant rain last week, the Kopili and Jamuna river were over-flooded as a consequence of which many villages of the district were submerged in first wave of flood.

The present wave of flood has hit 93 villages affecting 94,445 people and 7650.50 hectare agricultural land of Hojai district. 54 relief camps were established and so far given shelter to more than 10 thousand inmates.

CM also visited the river Kopili induced erosion hit areas and breached embankment and directed the Water Resources Department to repair the breached areas on a war footing. He also asked
the Public Works Department to repair the roads. Sonowal also went through slushy roads and visited relief camps set up at Jugijan and distributed nutritious food to the children.

Chief Minister Sonowal during his visit to the relief camps made a fervent appeal to the camp inmates to adhere to social distancing protocols and save themselves from COVID 19 infection. He also asked the district administration to conduct regular health check up on the camp inmates. He also asked the administration to ensure that the camp inmates get regular
adequate and quality food, drinking water etc.

Sonowal further directed the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sadnek Singh and other officials  to take necessary measures for the repair works, rescue and rehabilitation in co-operation with local MLA and Minister in Charge.

Speaking to the reporter's on the sidelines during his onsite visit, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appreciated the residents of the state for strongly dealing with  the four menance at a time viz., Covid 19 pandemic, flood, stroms and african swine flu with postive attitude without paniking and supporting the government endeavours.

Chief Minister said, "We have full faith on Prime Minister Narendra Modi that under his vibrant leadership,there will be a permanent solution of chronic problem's of the State along neighbouring State like  flood, landslides, erosion;etc."

He said for first time BJP led Modi government  constituted North East Water Management Authority under the Chairmanship of the vice chairman of NITI Aayog for the permanent solution of flood and erosion.  He  hoped that in the coming days Assam along with other neighbouring states will get relief from this clamaties.

Sonowal  lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving equal priority to NorthEastern States, he claimed earlier no government have given such importance to these States or formed such highlevel Commiittee's for it's upliftment.

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, Lumding MLA Sibu Mishra, officals and many other workers of BJP were present, during the CM's Visit.

HOJAI: In a bid to bust the spreading illicit liquor trade, the Hojai police have launched a major crackdown that has been successful in firmly dealing with the illegal traders in many pockets of the district.A police team launched a sudden raid against the illicit country liquor trade on Saturday night forcing many people dealing in it in the town to flee from the spot.Led by additional SP Anita Nath and assisted by Hojai police station officer in charge Kiteswar Baniya, the police team  further seized 500 litre illicit liquor and foreign liquor from Lalpatty area in the town during the raid.

HOJAI: Police have arrested two youths in Hojai a couple of days after the duo along with another allegedly raped a minor girl in Murajhar. Identified as Md Muyub Uddin (20) and Md Babul (Babu Ahmed)(21) they were held on Monday wee hours acting on a complaint lodged by the victim.  According to the police, the complaint was delayed which why the third one accused managed to leave Hojai. One of arrested duo was picked up from Kohima. Hunt is on for the third accused.
HOJAI:In order to accelerate the effort of Swachh Bharat mission (Gramin) District Water and Sanitation Comittee,  Hojai held an event to initiate state wide drive named '' Mission Sambhav, 2018" on Monday at Jamuna Moudanga Krishipam Nigam. Hojai DC Manavendra Pratap Singh,  SP Ankur Jain,  and many other dignitaries commemorated with pit digging followed by chorus, dance and street drama to spread the word  focusing on health,  sanitation and motivating individuals in constructing their own latrines.

HOJAI:"Gangaur" the  18 days festival concluded on  Tuesday  with the immersion of statue' s of  Lord Shiva and Parvati at Shivbari Ghat in Hojai. This Puja is mainly done by the newly married bride and young girls. Talking to Assam Times, Sushila Rathi said," Young girls and newly married bride mainly celebrates this festival  to appease Lord Shiv and Parvati and take their blessings for their happy married life."
