Kalita first choice candidate

Congress legislators will vote Bhubneswar Kalita as their first choice candidate. The second preference would in favour of Dr Sanjay Sinh. BPF candidate Biswajeet Daimary would get vote as the third choice candidate.This was more or less of what party legislators decided on Thursday evening after Majarbhuyan’s absence was confirmed by the legislator himself.Chaired by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the joint meeting was attended by APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita. Action against AIUDF MLA

Stunned by the disturbing development for the Opposition camp just 12 hours before the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, AIUDF has decided to expel its legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan.The decision took a final shape at a meeting of the party legislators on Thursday after it became clear that the MLA now in Abu Dhabai is all set to shy away from voting to help the Congress and BPF win the polls.Party president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters that he would be expelled from the party. He alleged that Majarbhyuan has struck deal with a senior Congress minister along with a former BJP MLA.

Majarbhuyan won’t come

Its confirm. An AIUDF legislator won’t be able to vote in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan himself confirmed it a few hours before the poll setting at rest all the speculations both in the ruling and Opposition camp.The legislator in question is arriving in Guwahati only after the polling on Friday. It’s a huge setback for Haidor Hussain. The Opposition consensus candidate was sure of his arrival till Thursday morning. But only to be disappointed in the evening.What is more disquieting is that two other AIUDF legislators are likely to follow the suit. Victory for Cong, BPF!

Congress and BPF are likely to win the Rajya Sabbha polls slated for Friday.AIUDF legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan has confirmed that he won’t be able to vote on Friday. He is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati only in the evening. He has also faxed his message to his personal assistant on Thursday afternoon.But by then the polling is set to be over. His vote was crucial for the Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain. AIUDF leadership was also expecting his arrival on Thursday evening. But that will hardly happen. Now the Congress and BPF camp is upbeat with his absence. 

Defeat Sanjay: Akhil

KMSS president Akhil Gogoi has dared Congress legislators to defeat Dr Sanjoy Sinh in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Participating at a dharna in Dispur on Thursday, Gogoi said that the Congress leaders in Assam should shoulder on the historic responsibility to defeat the outsider.  

AASU takes out procession

All Assam Students Union took out huge processions across the state on Thursday in protest against the fielding of Dr Sanjay Sinh in the Rajya Sabha polls slated for Friday.AASU activists in the district and sub divisional headquarters took out processions opposing the fielding of Dr Sinh who hails from UP.In Guwahati also, thousands of AASU activists joined the procession in the city. The procession ended with a rally addressed by AASU leaders including Dr Sammujal Bhattacharya, Tapan Kumar Gogoi and Sankar Prasasd Roy.     

KMSS dharna in Dispur

Hundreds of KMSS activists staged dharna in Dispur in protest against the fielding of Dr Sanjay Sinh in the Rajya Sabha polls slated for Friday.Led by Akhil Gogoi, the KMSS activists squatted in front of the Assam Assembly and strongly criticized Congress legislators and leaders for fielding an outsider in the polls.Talking to reporters, Gogoi said that they won’t allow any horse trading to take place in the Rajya Sabha polling process. They further prayed to the Almighty to lead the Congress leaders and legislators in right direction.

Passengers stabbed in train

In a bizarre incident, the Army jawans stabbed two passengers inside a train as they protested against defence personnel occupying all seats at the Rangia railway station on Thursday. GRP officials told Assam Times that they took into custody the three jawans and the Military Commanding Officer from the Army's Red Horns Mountain Division here was interrogating them. Then the accused from the 3rd Sikh LI regiment have been identified as Subedar Balwant Singh and Sepoys Bhupinder Singh and G Singh. DGP in Kokrajhar

DGP Khagen Sarma is on a stock-taking visit to Kokrajhar on Thursday.Sarma held a high level meeting at the Circuit House in Kokrajhar with the BTAD’s top police officials. He further asked police and para military forces to intensify counter offensive against NDFB, KLO and ULFA.The review of the law and order situation assumes significance three days after suspected NDFB-S militants kidnapped a businessman from Chirang district.

But the choice of candidates is still to be decided.
