ABSU demands formation of smaller states

KOKRAJHAR: All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has demanded state reorganisation commission in India to create smaller states across the country.

The students union urged upon BJP led NDA government to solve the Bodoland statehood issue through the political dialogue and bring a permanent peace in the region.

While talking exclusively with this Correspondent in a sidelines of the 52nd annual convention held Kanakeswar Narzary Jaorikhang Pwthar Serfangur on Monday in Kokrajhar,ABSU president Pramod Boro said that even though BJP led NDA government had promised to solve the Bodoland statehood issue,yet no good response and well gestures were arrived so far.He said that BJP party had enlisted the Bodoland statehood issue in their 2014 Parliamentary elections manifesto,but single initiative as well communication was reached out at this juncture.He said that Bodos are demanding separate Bodoland statehood since long five decades and hover tactically delayed the demands and issues of the Bodos.He has put demand to the government to take bold political initiative to make state reorganisation commission in India while creating new separate states in the country.He said that formation of state reorganisation commission in India will paving the way to create new separate states for bringing healthy and good governance across the country.

He said that students union has decided to urge upon the Government of India to resolve the issue without farther delay. Boro said that students union resolves to continue the vigorous mass movement if the government don’t take a policy decision at political level for permanent solution of the Bodoland issue at the earliest and also political right to the Bodos living outside the proposed Bodoland area and Hills Tribe status to the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.  

He has while heartily welcomes the cabinet decision of the Assam government for solution of Bodo issue and urges the state and central government to act accordingly for permanent peaceful solution. He,further has appealled to the Union government to take necessary initiative for early solution of Bodoland and its related issues as decided by the State Cabinet of Assam government.
He told that the students union has discussed on the armed revolutionary issue of Assam and northeastern states, has urged the government to expedite the peace talks in an earnest manner for an ever lasting peace in the region. He also demanded to take political initiative for meaningfully and mutually conclude the peaceful negotiation with all factions of Bodo armed revolutionary groups such as NDFB(P) & NDFB so as to usher an era of peace, harmony and development in the region.

In its annual convention,the students union has  resolved several eight points resolutions which are included urging the government of India to immediately resolve the separate state Bodoland issue through political dialogue,c carrying out the ongoing peace accord process with the armed revolutionary organizations expeditiously,solve the all pending issues of Bodo medium schools,colleges and universities before coming into force of national education policy 2019,make the Bodo language as one of the official language in Assam,rectify the imposition of Assamese language as compulsory subject in Assam.

Meanwhile,the the 52nd annual convention of the ABSU was concluded on Monday with three day colourful programme scheduled in Kokrajhar.

Former vice chancellor of Assam Agricultural University,Jorhat Prof Kamal Mallah Buzarbaruah graced as chief guest on the open session of the convention.Prof Buzarbaruah has lauded the initiatives taking by ABSU in bringing quality educational environment amongst the society and urged the citizens to be deducted to make healthy society.

Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami attended as special guest in the event.Goswami said that belief of superstition amongst the society must be eradicate to get healthy living.He has urged the students union to work towards the eradication of superstition(Daini belief), protection of women security and social upliftment.

He said that Bodos are son of soil and thus Bodo community must sustain with dedicated.

He has emphasized on the development aspects,said if Bodos are not uplifted in the state,Assam can not make development in the state.

He has highlighting the sporting spirits of Bodo youths,said Bodo youths are coming up healthy space in sports which is marking the state's growth in the sports environment.

On the Bodo issues, Goswami has put assurance that he is sharing the message for taking initiative politically with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and government to make solution way in near future.

"I shall take bold step to make sure to solve the peace process of the Bodo issue.I shall share this issue with government",he added.

He has opined healthy integrity amongst all sections of communities in the state,he said that we all need integrity to facilitate development and welfare of the citizens.

Among others,Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro,ex-MP and UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma,Tribal Sangha general secretary Aditya Kaklary,Bodoland University vice chancellor Prof Laishram Ladusingh were prominent attendees in the event.

GSP supports UPPL-BJP coalition

Kokrajhar: Ganasakti Party has also come in support of UPPL-BJP coalition to form BTC since ruling BPF fell short of 3 seats at the end of the poll counting on Sunday we hours. State BJP president Ranjit Das,  senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia, UPPL chief Pramod Boro and GSP chief Nabo Sarania met early in the morning in Dispur and finalised the entire deal.  This could formally end the BPF's alliance with BJP where 3 ministers might resign in a day or two. Notably, BPF emerged the single largest party with 17 seats, UPPL got 12, BJP 9, 1 seat each for GSP and Congress. AIUDF drew blank.

BJP, UPPL set to bid BPF farewell from BTR

Kokrajhar: The political landscape is set to undergo a sea change 5months ahead of assembly polls. UPPL and BJP are set to form BTC since BPF has failed to reach the magic mark of 21 in the polls where counting ended midnight. Even after the ruling party could not touch the magic mark, it emerged the largest party with 18 seats---falling short of 3 seats. On the other hand resurgent UPPL has won 12 seats and is holding talks with BJP to form the council which got 9 seats. Congress and AIUDF could not open the account while Gana Sakti Party had to remain satisfied with just a single seat.

BPF losing at the hands of UPPL and BJP

Kokrajhar: The Boro Peoples’ Front is decimated in Boroland Territorial Region where BTC poll counting took place on Saturday. The ruling party is losing at the hands of the resurgent UPPL and BJP, which ironically is BPF’s main coalition ally.   UPPL is taking a huge lead and is going to form the BTC with Pramod Boro in the helm while BJP is just waiting to severe its 5 years alliance. According to the trend, UPPL and BJP will form the council while BPF would be thrown to the opposition. The counting took place from 8 in the morning.   

Brisk BTC polling in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Around 6.9 voters in Kokrajhar district are exercise their franchise in the second phase of BTC polls on Friday. The district has 19 constituencies where 77 candidates are in the fray. According to the authorities security forces are heavily guarding the every single booth firmly deal with the possible incidents of rigging and booth capturing. The polling is so far peaceful.   The first phase of the polls in Udalguri and Baksa districts saw a polling turnout of 77. The counting will take place on December 12.

Peaceful BTC polling in Chirang

Baksa: A brisk polling is underway in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of BTR in the final phase of BTC polls on Thursday. Amid tight security and COVID19 protocol, the voters in Chirang district are waiting in long queue in front of the polling booths from 7 in the morning. Around 3.68 lakh voters are deciding on the fate of 34 candidates and the most of the seats have witnessed tight triangular contest of BPF, BJP and resurgent UPPL. The first phase of the polls in Udalguri and Baksa districts saw a polling turnout of 77. The counting will take place on December 12.

School reopening in the state

KOKRAJHAR: Schools have reopened from Monday after six months in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration. On the opening day, attendance of the students are seen very thin in the schools. Students are allowed to enter the schools after having NOC from parents, wearing masks and hands sanitized. Thermal checking was compulsory. A strict initiative from health and education departments have been arranged in the school entry gate. According to source, there are only 35 thermal scanner were used out of the required 93 in the schools across the district. BTC illegal appointment: Transport department terminates 29 employees

KOKRAJHAR: Amidst the ongoing Governor's Rule in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), 29 employees of Transport department have been terminated on Friday(7th August, 2020) from their jobs by BTC Secretariat who were allegedly illegally appointed without any interview or examinations during the BPF ruled BTC administration in the council. Among the terminated employees, 8 are assistant enforcement inspectors and 21 enforcement checkers under the Transport Department of BTC administration. Diversion of Gongia river initiated to check flood

KOKRAJHAR: A Bathow puja was offered to Ganga goddess to get rid of protection from flood and erosion hit at Sikarbil village along the Gongia River in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.  Villagers from greater Sikarbil area under Dotma revenue circle have come out to be part of the offering Puja to the almighty God at the Gongia Riverbank.
