Kali Puja and Dipawali celebration in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The Kali Puja and Dipawali festival was celebrated in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration today with lighting reflections and beautiful showcase of fire crackers.

The Kali Puja and Dipawali have been celebrating as festival of lights and offered prayer and worship to the Goddess Kali.

Various Puja mandhaps have been decorated with beautiful lighting scenes where devotees and visitors thronged at the mandhap to offer prayer and worship during the celebration.

Buildings are seeing illuminated with lighting reflections which has made strong amusement amongst the citizens.

Women devotees designed and create attractive arts in their respective residential complex and street buildings.

The Kali Puja and Dipawali festival was organised at Thanapara Kali mandir with a week long programme scheduled in Kokrajhar.

Meanwhile,district administration,Kokrajhar and police administration have been keeping strong observation to maintain healthy law and order environment in the district during the puja celebration.

District administration has promulgated 144 CrPC in the district to maintain peace and tranquility amongst all sections of the society.

On the other hand,several students union and social organisation including Bodoland Students Union,Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha have urgedupon the district administration to check anti-social activities,gambling activities during the puja festival celebration.

They demanded strict initiatives against the anti-social incidents,gambling environment and make a healthy society.

Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma, ABSU president Pramod Boro,BTC executive members Rajiv Brahma,Bonzar Daimary,social activist Jyotika Brahma,Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary have extended their Kali Puja and Dipawali greetings to all citizens of the state on the occasion.

NDFB-S denies couple killing

The Songbijit faction of NDFB has denied their involvement with killing of a couple at Selekhaguri under Runikhata PS in Chirang district on Wednesday night. Sales taxes seizes goods in Kokrajhar

Sales Tax officials in Kokrajhar seized goods which were brought by train without paying taxes in Kokrajhar railway station on Friday. Couple killed in Chirang

A couple was killed by suspected NDFB-S militant at Selekaguri under Runikhata PS in Chirang district late last night, which created sensation in the area. According to SP, Chirang, couple was murdered with sharp weapons last night in their nearby village by unidentified miscreants. Couple was identified as Birendra Basumatary alias Buthobenga (55) and Paodhur Basumatary (45). Birendra was arrested along with two others in December last for associating with NDFB-S organization. Road mishap kills 1

A home guard jawan of Serfanguri PS was died at Serfanguri national highway early this morning due to hit by a boiler carrying vehicle in Kokrajhar district.  According to eye witness, a home guard jawan identified as Karji Brahma,34-years-old of Jharaguri of Gossaigaon sub-division was hit by a vehicle this around 5am when he was morning walk along the National Highway at Serfanguri, vehicle fled the spot hitting home guard jawan. Sal logs seized in Kokrajhar

Police and forest department officials, once able to seize a laden truck with Sal and non Sal logs,which were carrying by smugglers along at Karigaon along 31 C National Highway early this morning in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. Manas NP expanded to 850 sq.km

The Manas National Park (MNP) has got nod of approval for addition of 350 sq.km from Governor of Assam under Chirang division in west part of the National Park. Governor approved the first addition to Manas national Park yesterday under section 35 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972(as amended up to date) which facilitates welfare of the expansion of the national park in the BTAD as well lower Assam districts. NDFB-S cadre held

Security forces belonging to Assam Police and Army arrested, at a join operation arrested a cadre of NDFB-S from Patabari area under Runikhata PS in Chirang district on Wednesday . The cadre was identified as Swmkhwr Kaklary alias K Saiklom. An Insus riffle, magazine and 60 live rounds recovered from  him.

Couple held for trafficking

A couple was apprehended from Karigaon under Kokrajhar PS for allegedly human trafficking cases by Nedan NGO and AASAA activists on Wednesday. According to police,the couple was arrested when they reach along with trafficked girl to return her at Karigaon,who trafficked girl in October last year. The couple was identified as Ramesh Yadav and Chumki Murmu,hailed from Islampur of Dinajpur of West Bengal state.The couple has been involved with human trafficking from the region since few years back, a NGO activist in Kokrajhar. ‘Interrogation is on them and expected more inputs about trafficking will become out’, said an AASAA activist.
