Bineswar Brahma remembered

Kokrajhar: The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and Bodo community recalled contributions of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and his contribution towards upliftmentof the Bodo literary and language; on his 19th death anniversary at his burial place at Chandamari in Kokrajhar on Monday.

The anniversary was organized under the aegis of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) in association with Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust to mark the occasion. Brahma was shot dead by armed extremist at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati on 19th August in 2000 when he was president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

Brahma was deputy general manager in FCI for northeast region besides holding president in the Bodo sahitya sabha when he was assasinated.

Toren Boro, president of the sabha hoisted the organizational flag in half-mast followed by paying homage to the tomb of Bineswar Brahma, was paid floral tribute by BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary,younger sister of late Brahma Sayarani Brahma.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary,Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma,former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islary,noted social activist Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary, ABWWF president Bubha Rani Narzary were prominent attendees on the occasion and paid homage to late Brahma.

An open discussion on the life of late Bineswar Brahma was also held on the occasion with Toren Boro, president of the sabha in the chair in which speakers have highlighted the contribution of late Brahma towards Bodo language and literary development.

Leaders, peoples from all walks of life, apart from many organizations like Bodo sahitya sabha, ABSU, ABWWF, Tribal Sangha participated the anniversary to pay floral tribute to late Brahma on the occasion.

A sovenir was also carried out on the occasion which was released by Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma.

President of the Bodo sahitya sabha Toren Boro has been recalling contributions of late Brahma, who dedicated his life for the welfare of Bodo literary, language and culture said that late Brahma was the man of great dedicated. He has condemned the assassination of Brahma, who had contributed a lot from his heart for the Bodo society by holding presidentship in his life. He had been always wishing a peaceful society in the region. He said Bodo community should unite and build a healthy society so that community can gain healthy development.

Boro said that Brahma had stressed end of extremism incidents in the state as a whole across the north eastern region and so he was voicing against militancy activities and hence urged the government to make solutions through political dialogue.He said that Bodo sahitya sabha was working to the welfare and uplift of Bodo language and literary in the country.

Minister Brahma  while paying homage to late Brahma termed that Bineswar Brahma was the harbinger of peace in the region. He said late Brahma was an extraordinary leader of the sabha as well of Bodo community. Despite, a high official responsibility in FCI, Brahma dedicated his life for Bodos’ development and language uplift. He said that late Brahma’s contribution and dedication was endless who had been stressed to bring healthy and integrated society in the state. He expressed his concern after Brahm’s death said that the Bodo loss a great thinker and ideologue person who was shot dead by militants in 2000.

‘We must keep alive ideology and philosophy of late Brahma while building a well development of language and literary of Bodos in the world’, Brahma added.

Kokrajhar district is grappling with a significant malaria outbreak, with 1,991 cases reported up to November 20, 2024, marking a stark rise from 256 cases recorded in 2023.
