ULFA-I network suffers setback

Namrup: Despite an intensive counter insurgency operation rebel elements keep working in many pockets in upper Assam these days. The entire rebel network has widened extortion in Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts forcing the security forces to step in.

Army jawans based at the Maibela camp claimed to have busted a huge rebel network which has been terrorizing the people in many areas with extortion activities.

 Acting on a specific input, the army jawans conducted a raid at the Diamond hotel in Sonari , where two linkmen were held.

Identified as Durlabh Konwar @ Moon age 23   and Niranjan Borgohain @ Nion, they were handed over to police after  a 9 mm pistol  along with a Magzine , 2 rounds of 9mm live bullets were seized from their possession.

During preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed to have assisted the rebel leaders in fresh recruitment, extortion activities apart from arms smuggling.
Army, police and para military forces have called it a huge setback for the rebel outfit fighting for an independent Assam.

NAMRUP: A sudden phone call a self-styled ULFA(I) rebel to a local journalist struck no less panic in a village in Charaideo district forcing the security forces to step in on Sunday. The caller from 7085896404 who identified himself as an ULFA(I) rebel claimed to have planted three powerful bombs in Pehipukhuri based high voltage power lines which have not exploded. NAMRUP: ULFA(I) rebels are now well equipped to monger trouble. They are believed to have procured sophisticated arms and ammunition to strike at regular intervals. Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup following the sudden demise of Tai expert and historian Kamaleswar Gogoi on Thursday. He is 77 and passed away at a private hospital in Dibrugarh at 8.20 in the evening where he was admitted when he complained of breathing difficulty.   Born and brought up in Namrup Nagamati, Gogoi joined  BVFCL in 1963 as an administration officer and stayed till retirement in 1994.He travelled abroad for conducting research on Tai language, literature and culture. Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup when Assam agitation leader, noted Social Worker and EX-  BVFCL Fertilizer Union President  Ashim Rajkhowa breathed his last at his own residence in the town on Sunday.He was 69 and died after a brief ailment. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
