The Civil Society Alliance – Assam, a solidarity group committed to the cause of promoting and defending indigenous peoples’ rights for peace, justice and equality is expressing to voice its deep concern regarding the proposed financing development model of privatizing the historical monuments of Ahom Kingdoms of Sivasagar district and kaziranga National Park of Assam being crafted through the ambitious ‘adopt a heritage’ in the state. CSAA believe that this kind of aggressive project pose greater challenge to sustainable and people-oriented development which institutionalize the private control over the resources and divert the government attention from addressing the social concerns in a new form of advancing neoliberalism. It is also a thought-provoking matter of concern now for the indigenous people because such privatize sector move may facilitate human rights violation, including land grabbing and displacement of the native community in the long run.
The Alliance group is also deeply concerned about increasing private sector involvement in the state in various forms are becoming an increasingly important actors in social development process. This kind of PPP model which is known is also a privatization by other means in the state run system which has gained momentum since the failure of privatization programs initiated by the International Financial Institution (IFI) such as World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other bilateral and multilateral institutions across many counties earlier.
In a solidarity statement, CSAA would also like to urge that Government of India to comply its international human rights commitments and obligation of Rights of Indigenous Peoples as drawn in United Nation Declaration of the Rights of the Indigenous People, adopted by the General Assembly in 2007 (UNDRIP, Article 11) that Indigenous peoples have the right to practice and revitalize their cultural traditions and customs. This includes the right to maintain, protect and develop the past, present and future manifestations of their cultures, such as archaeological and historical sites, artefacts, designs, ceremonies, technologies and visual and performing arts and literature.
The Civil Society Alliance – Assam, a collation of NGO, Community Based Institution, indigenous Peoples Organisations & social activist, being connected to this land by virtue of aboriginal are urging to withdraw the current proposal of privatizing modality of corporatizing the historical monuments & national park of Assam instantly to address the negative consequences in order to defend the community control over the basic services and resources for development justice. The alliance also would like to urge the Government for its policy towards the use of development resources for private financing implementation to replace with greater and more democratic public sector leadership with the enforcement of regulatory mechanisms to ensure transparency for people. All India United Democratic Front in Assam accused the Congress- led state government of failing in implementing minority welfare schemes. In yet another incident of rape, a 29-year-old woman died after being brutally raped and dumped by a driver in Silchar on Thursday. The incident took place when the woman and her husband were travelling by a private vehicle from Bolpui town of Mizoram to Lumding in on Wednesday when the driver, feigning problem in the vehicle, asked the man to push it, they said. As soon as the man got off, the driver sped away with the woman inside.
Stung by incessant criticism Guwahati police on Thursday arrested a businessman charging him with holding syndicate.Popularly known as Naanka, the businessman was nabbed by police at 2-30 in the afternoon. His arrest comes a day after police raided a house in Beltola area for holding a coal syndicate in Nalbari.

Stern action awaits fake financial institutions. Disclosing this in the Assam assembly on Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilomoni Sen Deka said that as of March 6, 2013, a total of 192 cases had been filed against 117 such companies. He said that police have also seized 106 bank accounts and Rs 93.81 lakh. He said that this was apart from seizure of property worth Rs 24.28 crore and six bighas of land have also been seized from fake financial companies.
Dispur is ready to appoint 12,000 more teachers in the state. Education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters on Wednesday that a list of 12000 teachers of high schools in 22 districts would be available at 12 noon on Thursday. After one week, the appointment orders would be sent to the TET successful candidates to enable them to join in mid-April.
The recovery of a body creates no less tension in Dispur on Wednesday. Identified as Tinku Singh the Assam Sachivalay employee was missing from April 1. He went out with the of his friends on that day. The body was rescued from Last Gate which bears injury marks. His family members have called it a cold blooded murder.
Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.
A truck driver was killed and five others have been injured when two trucks collided heads on in the out skirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The mishap took place at Sarutezpur at around 7.30 where a truck carrying sand collided its head on another truck. One person died on the spot while five others have been sent to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Two bikers were killed at a tragic mishap in the outskirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The mishap took place near Boko in the morning when the bikers were crushed to death by a vehicle. Identified as Manoj Rabha and Nirav Rabha, the bikers died on the spot.
