SIVASAGAR: Security forces are fanning along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Charaideo to combat the suspected ULFA(I) rebels who triggered a reign of terror on Wednesday night with gunfiring at a tea garden.
Army, police and para military forces have cordoned off a huge area in and around the Kanu tea estate hours after the rebels blank fired for several minutes terrorizing the local residents who were forced to confine to their houses. Even nobody in the area dared to come out from their houses in the morning. No one has so far been arrested. Local residents believed it an extortion attempt at a particular place terrorizing the local people who could not come out.
ULFA (I) rebels who keeps extorting money at regular intervals are believed to have been camping in the sense jungles of the hills state to strike in this area before managing to escape the security forces.
