ULFA(I) rebel held in Charaideo

NAMRUP: The security forces claimed to have captured a dreaded ULFA-I rebel in Charaideo district on Saturday.

Acting on a tip off police and Dao division Army jawans conducted a combing operation in Dillighat area where the rebel was hiding to extort money.

Identified as Abhay Deka, he was captured during the operation who was one of the accused in the Dullighat shoot out which took place two years back.

A team of police and army officials has been interrogating Abhay after a pistol, live bullets and extortion notices were seized from his possession.

NAMRUP: A sudden phone call a self-styled ULFA(I) rebel to a local journalist struck no less panic in a village in Charaideo district forcing the security forces to step in on Sunday. The caller from 7085896404 who identified himself as an ULFA(I) rebel claimed to have planted three powerful bombs in Pehipukhuri based high voltage power lines which have not exploded. Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup following the sudden demise of Tai expert and historian Kamaleswar Gogoi on Thursday. He is 77 and passed away at a private hospital in Dibrugarh at 8.20 in the evening where he was admitted when he complained of breathing difficulty.   Born and brought up in Namrup Nagamati, Gogoi joined  BVFCL in 1963 as an administration officer and stayed till retirement in 1994.He travelled abroad for conducting research on Tai language, literature and culture. Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup when Assam agitation leader, noted Social Worker and EX-  BVFCL Fertilizer Union President  Ashim Rajkhowa breathed his last at his own residence in the town on Sunday.He was 69 and died after a brief ailment. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
