Political issue nearing end: Zeliang

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang lauded the Churches, Civil Societies and the NGOs for facilitating the resolution of the Naga political issue. He said that with their contribution and co-operation, the DAN Govt since its installation to office in March 2003, had accorded highest priority to the Naga Political Issue and continues to do so.


Speaking at the Consultative Meet of the Nagaland Legislators Forum with Ex-Parliamentarians on Naga Political Issue on Thursday at RCEMPA-Jotsoma, Kohima he said 'Efforts at bringing about better understanding between the different NNPGs and drawing them closer to each other has been made while numerous resolutions were passed by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and other forums to give the right impetus to the Peace Process from time to time.”


Zeliang said that the credit for bringing the various factions together on a common platform went to 'the Tribal Hohos and its Apex Bodies, the Church, Civil societies, NGOs and the NNPGs.'


            To bolster efforts in facilitation of the Peace process, mention may be made that an all Member DAN Cabinet led by the Chief Minister had gone to Delhi to urge for an early settlement of the Naga Political issue especially in view of the upcoming Assembly Elections.


Though the delegation could not meet the Prime Minister owing to his busy engagements and tour programs in connection with Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, the Team met Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh; Minister DONER, Jitendra Singh; National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval; Deputy NSA & Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, R N Ravi; Secretary to Prime Minister, Bhaskar Khulbe; 6 NNPGs and NSCN (IM) Leader, Th. Muivah.


 


During the recent visit of the President, Ram Nath Kovind, a representation was submitted portraying the imperative need for resolving the protracted Naga political problem before the ensuing State Assembly Elections. A similar representation is to be submitted to the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh who will be arriving at Kisama for the Hornbill Festival on Friday.


 The issue dominating every political discourse since Statehood has been settlement of the Naga political issue and till date, it continues to be the main focus of the Government, past and present, and every Political party in Nagaland.

 


Considering the present moment as the most opportune time for the Nagas and the Government of India to resolve the seven decades old Naga political issue, Chief Minister TR Zeliang called for 'one vision, one mission and one goal' in finding a lasting solution to the vexed Naga political problem at the earliest.

ULFA spots conspiracy to finish the outfit

Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit. In a statement sent to media,  the proscribed outfit claimed to have caught the conspiracy as they grilled a youth from Baihata Chariali in Kamrup who recently joined the outfit.  They have published a list of youths who were trained to target the outfit.. APCC Refutes Reports of more Leaders Deserting the Party

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. Congress top leader quits party, joins TMC

New Delhi : In yet another significant development in the field of politics,  Assam's former Congress president and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora quits the party and joined TMC on Sunday. Emergence of AAP rattles BJP!

Guwahat: AAP has alleged a nefarious attempt by BJP in Guwahati to upset it's prospect for the upcoming GMC polls.  Talking to Assam Times, a senior leader of the party said that BJP/s youth wing has damaged a hoarding in Guwahati on Monday.  He said that this was followed by the removal of a few other AAP banners and hoardings in the Capital city by the administration.  Later in a statement, the newly emerging party said that BJP's the largest ever political party on the planet was rattling at the stepped up electioneering by a very small party which is in power only in two states.  AAP is contesting 40 wards out of 60 in the GMC polls slated for April 22.

Guwahati: The recent landslide victory in Punjab seems to be a morale booster for the Aam Admi Party in Guwahati in the run up to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election slated for April 22. Patrial withdrawal of AFSPA

New Delhi: The Centre has withdrawn AFSPA  1958 from 24 districts in view of an improved law and order situation. According to the notification, it would come into force from April 1,2022. Apart from the hills districts, AFSPA will be in force in Sivasagar, Jorhat,  Tinsukia.  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for the decision and hoped that the Act would be a thing of the past for the entire state in the near future.
