World AIDS Day in Hojai

An AIDS awareness meeting was organised by Hojai District Administration and District Health Society on the occasion of "World Aids Day" on Friday at Desh Bandhu Vidyapith Higher Secondary School auditorium hall , sponsored by Assam State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Ajmal foundation.

Speaking on this occasion,Chief Guest Manvendra Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Hojai District said,"HIV Aids is a curable disease, today the world has changed, their is rapid advancement in technology, but it is also the responsibility of each school, college, hospital, non-profit organisation's, individual's  to create awareness among each other and in the society, so that this disease can be prevented."

He further said," Rate of drug abuse youngsters  is increasing immensely in Assam, which is also a reason in increment in aids affected patients."

Ashish Kr. Dey, Secretary, Gharwaa,NGO, Khasrul Islam, General Manger Ajmal Foundation, Dr. Chetia  Phukan, Paresh Badyakar,Director SOS's Children's Village, Dr. C.K Bora, Senior Medical Officer, Hojai FRU, Dr. MRH Azad,AGM,Ajmal Foundation and many other dignitaries also shared their views. Everyone said, "HIV Aids  can be prevented only through proper awareness."

 

A awareness rally was also organised in the morning from Hojai Fru to Desh Bandhu Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, where students from different schools' participated holding placards having message's of Aids awareness.

Talking to Assam Times, Nazim Ahmed, Project Director DIPARC said,"In Assam around 14,000 people are aids affected and in Hojai  226 people are suffering from this disease and the reason is people have a stigma to remain within themself, they doesn't express about their sickness, which is also a big reason in increment of Aids patients." "We want to create awareness among people through this type of meetings and rally."he added.

SOS's Children's Village also organised a awareness rally at Telibasti and Fakirabasti in Hojai.

Hojai: Hojai is in deep grip of holi festivity which entered second and final day where people of all age groups celebrated the occasion with lots of enthusiasm to mark the advent of spring. People enjoying the festivity smearing each other with colours and abir, the red vermilion powder thronging the various points to enjoy the festival of colours. HOJAI: The Hojai police have arrested four persons 24 hours after they allegedly shot dead a person on the town on Thursday night. Identified as Rajib Mazumdar, Yahiya Uddin, Haidar Ali  and Makbul Islam they were arrested acting on some inputs after the police registered the case. After interrogation they would be produced before the court.  Police further claimed to have recovered a  7.65mm pistol  2 magazines, 10 rounds of live. 7.65mm bullets, 2 live rounds of  303 bullets and 4 rounds of Cartridges from the possession of Makbul during the search operation at his premises.which was kept concealed in the house  premises. A separate case has been registered.
HOJAI: One person sustained serious injury when unidentified miscreants fired upon him in Hojai on Thursday.The incident took place in Ahmed Nagar when two motor cycle born youths fired upon Abdur Kadir at 8.45 in the evening. A severally injured Kadir has been referred to Guwahati after primary treatment at a local hospital.Police have registered a case and operation is going on to nab the miscreants.  
HOJAI: Forest department has blamed it all on the Northeast Frontier Railways for the recent incident where five wild jumbos were crushed to death by a speeding train.Addressing a press conference, District Forest Officer Safikur Rahman said the NF Railways has issued misleading statement since the timing of the incident happended on 10th february when train no. 15611( Silchar bound Guwahati- Silchar fast passenger) passed was 9:32 PM not 9:40 PM. HOJAI: Four full grown wild jumbos died a tragic death when a speeding train rammed into a herd of wild elephants in Hojai on Saturday sending huge shock and anger across the state. The incident took place in the evening at Hawaijan area where the Guwahati)bound passenger train from Silchar rammed into a herd of wild elephants as it crossed the railway tracks. Shock and sensation prevail in Hojai when an unidentified speedy car crushed to death a police officer on Saturday night. According to information the incident took place at night in Nilbagan area on NH No 54 when the speeding car knocked down Ajit Gogoi WT-OPR( Police Personnel) as he was returning to home from duty.   He was immediately taken to the hospital. But the doctors declared him brought dead.
