NEW DELHI:Over 10,000 farmers from north, east and southern states have arrived in New Delhi to hold a huge rally on Monday demanding immediate release of Akhil Gogoi two days after the Assam NSA Advisory Committee confirmed punishment for the peasant leader.
From Assam alone, more that 500 people have arrived in the capital to take the lead in the rally at the Ram Lila Maidan on Monday morning.
The farmers from others states have also arrived in the capital while some others are expected to arrive by the evening.
Talking to Assam Times in Delhi, organizers said that many people are coming on Monday tl join the rally where noted social activists have confirmed their participation.
" We want to leave a message to the government that the more the peasant leader would be in jail the more trouble would brew for the government. We will be fighting until and unless Akhil Gogoi is freed," said the organizers.
"If the government wants to suppress the voice of protest ig will have to face dire consequences. We want to show tnd might of the farming fraternity," said Dakshya Kumar a peasant leader from Haryana who is one of the organizers.
Gogoi, the KMSS adviser was arrested two months back in Dibrugarh after hd openly urged the people to remain prepared for an armed struggle if need be. Then he was remanded to the Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act.
