Cong war for territorial integrity continues

Assam Congress sharpens its attack on the NDA government at the Centre saying it betrayed the people of Assam by signing the Naga Framework agreement with the NSCN (I-M) in 2015.

Addressing a huge protest rally at Namtola on Wednesday state Congress president Ripun Bora said,”India being a republic it is a noble practice for the Centre to either seek the opinion of the concerning states or to hold consultations before signing any agreement which in all probability has direct impact upon the states concerned.”

He said two years after it signed the agreement with the Naga outfit on the formation of Nagalim without holding any kind of consultations with the concerning states, the Centre now wants to impose the agreement upon the people of these states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

He said the people along the Assam- Nagaland interstate border have been spending sleepless nights since the agreement was signed. Even after demands being made by various quarters to make the controversial agreement public, the Centre had not heed to it thereby totally dishonouring public sentiments, said Bora.

Former minister Sarat Borkatoky in his speech termed the BJP as a party of betrayers and said that the sole objective of the BJP had only been to grab power both at the Centre and Assam by making false promises to the people.

Criticizing Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his council of ministers, the former MLA said that Sonowal and his ministries who work only with instructions from the RSS have now completely turned their back towards the development of the people and are focused on their personal benefits.

In his address, Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gourav Gogoi said that through demonetization and GST the Centre had put on more loads of taxes upon the poor and the weaker sections of the society. “The BJP led government in the state had totally failed in controlling price rise of essential commodities, to create job avenues and even to repair bad roads”, Gogoi said.
