Rakesh Paul to move SC with bail plea

GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.

A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.

A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.

Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.

Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has categorically refused to reshuffle his council of minister. Taking up a letter of request of the kind in the party's legislature body meeting in Dispur on Saturday, Gogoi said that the reshuffle is not required at this moment. He said that he was open for the excercise as situation warrants. He silently listened to the MLAs and ministers as they vented ire on the performance of a section of ministers. The 3 hour long meeting ended with a pledge to unitedly fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Then Gogoi left for Delhi to arrange his son's wedding ceremony.
A section of ministers has come in for sharp critism for alleged under performance. A circle of ministers and MLAs, known for waging war against Tarun Gogoi and a few of his trusted men, came down heavily on the non performing ministers. Those who vented anger agaist Gogoi's men were Pradan Barua, Piyush Hazarika. They were countered by Nilmonisen Deka.  Anjan Dutta alleged that the ministers, mostly, have lost control over the officers and demanded steps to rein in this trend. Sarat Borkotoky  also expressed concern over this uneasy trend.
A brainstorming legislature party meet of Assam Congress is trying to sort out differences among a section of ministers and MLAs. The crucial meet, first time in the history, has begun at the Assam assembly premises at 10 in the morning on Saturday where a section  ofMLAs and ministers stressed expedited development process to woo the voters in the upcoming general elections. The ministers and MLAs, known to be closed to dissident leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma were expected to vent open anger against chief minister and a few of his associates. But there is hardly any possibility in view of high command's instruction to keep quiet.
Dissident ministers and MLAs held a number of meetings to clear strategies to corner chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his trusted ministers in the CLP meet on Saturday. The chief minister also is in touch with some influential leaders to overpower the dissident camp. Senior MLAs Sarat Borkotoky and Anjan Dutta are likely to back Gogoi. But they want an immediate reshuffle in the council of ministers. Nobody from AICC is there in the meeting.
