GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.
A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.
A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.
Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.
Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

Security forces are spreading along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border to rescue Anil Kumar Agarwal a day after suspected NDFB (S) militants kidnapped the general manager with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.He was abducted at gun point from Bhalukpung in Sonitpur district on Saturday on his way to Guwahati. The Park and Forest Department officials suspect that poachers, helped by agents living near KNP, drive adult rhinos towards Buraphar and Bagori ranges to kill them.

Yet another incident of suicide rocked Guwahati on Wednesday. It took place in Christanbasti. Identified as Jintu Phukan, the youth who worked with a shop in Fancy Bazar area hanged himself inside his rent room.
A college girl in Ujanbazar area in Guwahati committed suicide sending shockwaves in the city. Identified as Navanita Chakarbartty, the girl who hailed from Nalbari hanged herself inside her room at a girls hostel. She had a brilliant academic career who was doing medical coaching course.
