GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.
A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.
A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.
Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.
Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

The death toll in the massive waterlogging in Guwahati has gone up to three when an SDRF team deployed in rescue operation fished out the body of a youth on Wednesday morning who had been remaining untraced since Tuesday afternoon. The Assam government has fired a newly appointed lady ACS officer alleging her involvement in the APSC scam suggesting similar action against many others who managed to be selected in the combined competitive examination. M Kalita, the assistant commissioner attached to the chief minister's secreteriat has been fired on Monday in view of her alleged involvement in the scam. According to sources, even after glaring evidence of her involvement she was not questioned by the investigators along with 25 others at Kahilipara last week.
