Rakesh Paul to move SC with bail plea

GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.

A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.

A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.

Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.

Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

PRASENJIT SAHA AGARTALA: A CPM worker sustained serious injury when two group of political parties clashed with each other on Sunday when the north eastern state was going to the assembly polls in 59 constituencies. The clash broke out at Golaghati area in Dayaram para in the afternoon. According to allegations, a group of BJP workers suddenly sprang upon their CPM counterparts where he sustained serious injury. DIBRUGARH: A gang of gunmen unleashed a reign of terror in a remote village in Dibrugarh on Saturday triggering sensation in the entire district. As many as 10 armed men stormed into a village in Kakopothar area in the wee hours in search of someone striking panic among the villagers.  Towards the morning, these unidentified gunmen took away a local youth Suranjeet Konwar from his house which is still remaining clueless. AGARTALA: After interrogating for two hours at a police station in Agartala, the election observer asked Pallab Lochan Das to leave Tripura on Friday night. The power minister was caught in a remote area in Dhalai district in the poll bound north eastern state acting on the allegations of violating model code of conduct since he was allegedly distributing cash among the voters.
